Google is About to Change the Way Ads are Displayed on Their Search Pages [Rumor]

Feb 23, 2016 - 3:34 PM - by dgstorm

According to the latest rumint, Google is getting ready to make a huge change in the way it displays advertisements on the Google.com search results page. The current method includes one or two ads at the top of the page, and several additional ads in the sidebar on the right. Supposedly, the new change will actually show 4 ads at the top and an even larger compliment of ads in the sidebar on the right. You can see an example of the final change in the screen-cap above.

The obvious effect this will have for some users is that they will have to scroll down farther to actually see their own search results. We can imagine this will not be a well received change, although advertisers will likely be happier about it. What do you folks think?

Blizzard is Considering Porting Starcraft and Other Titles to Mobile

Feb 16, 2016 - 11:28 AM - by dgstorm

For any of you folks who view gaming on PCs fondly (either currently or in the past), this latest news might be a nice bit of nostalgia. According to Blizzard president and co-founder Michael Morhaime, senior vice president and co-founder Frank Pearce, and senior vice president Chris Metzen, the gaming company is considering porting their Starcraft franchise to the Mobile world.

So far, Blizzard's greatest (and only) success on the mobile platform is the Hearthstone collectible digital card game for Android and iOS. Beyond their focus on that product the executives shared they are not working on any new IP for mobile, but they are toying around with the idea of porting older Blizzard titles. Their first example was the ultra-successful Starcraft RTS.

They had a great deal more to say during the session, including that the company does not intend to focus on VR for some time. Feel free to check out more at the source link below.

Who else thinks Starcraft, Diablo or Warcraft would be awesome on a tablet or smartphone?

Microsoft Will Acquire SwiftKey; Android & iOS Versions to Continue

Feb 03, 2016 - 1:39 PM - by dgstorm

In a surprise move, Microsoft has come from out of nowhere and purchased SwiftKey, the popular mobile keyboard replacement app that is found on both Android and iOS. The news was announced on SwiftKey's blog this morning, and doesn't share too many details regarding the deal.

The good news for some is that Microsoft will continue to develop the Android and iOS versions of SwiftKey (at least for the foreseeable future). Here's a quick quote from the founders of SwiftKey,

"Our number one focus has always been to build the best possible products for our users. This will not change. Our apps will continue to be available on Android and iOS, for free. We are as committed as ever to improving them in new and innovative ways.

We owe a lot to the invaluable input of our users, including our 130,000-strong VIP community and the many thousands of others who have been with us since the start.Their energy, honest feedback and eagerness to share our products have been the driving force behind our growth."

What do you think of this sudden development from the most popular mobile keyboard replacement company?
