Sorry Lee - one question about the WIN phone though....did it come with a new box of Crayola's?

On a serious note...I have played with a WIN8 beta...and it has the software "switch" to use the WIN7 "look" or the new "ugly blocky UI" look. The new UI is actually designed with tablets in mind. Something for everyone.

I am certainly game for a Windows 8 tablet. The main draw for me is programming the .NET framework, which is my day job.

That said I assume that a Windows 8 Transformer is a whole separate device and not a possible upgrade for an existing Android model. I wonder what the price tag might be.

i bought my transformer hoping to do a lot of word processing on the go, and I'm disappointed and frustrated so far (2 months). I'll be gutted if this windows transformer does the job but you have to buy a new machine... this wasn't cheap! Please provide MS word as a download. I don't mind paying if it's good.

Windows 8 is going to be optimized for the tablet from the get go. You can choose to run desktop apps but the app developper should have a tablet optimised version for you to run it properly. For those with the keyboard dock, this should not be much of an issue, although performance will be processor dependent. Would I run Windows 8 on my TF101? Not likely. I bought this tablet to get away from Windows issues (viruses and bloat). If I need a full blown mobile Windows experience, I reach for my laptop.

I also had the chance to play with a friend's very new windows phone the other day for maybe 2 hours. I have to admit that the phone OS was fast. But I also have to admit that the UI is remarkably dumbed down and almost childish. It might be appealing to one segment of the smartphone population, but a small part I suspect.
Worked for the Apple iOS.... Having had to support Windows machines for the past almost 20 years, I much prefer to coach someone on a simple/childish interface than having to get someone to drill down in multiple layers and tabs of a Control Panel applet. Also, at least the desktop version has a quick link to the old familiar Windows Aqua interface.

I find Kingsoft Office fits the bill quite well.

Another issue I may have with Windows 8 tablets is whether they will allow installation of custom/previously owned apps without having to root/hack the stupid thing.
