Would like to load E-reader Libby or Overdrive - Play Store not working ???

    I like to read E-books.
Years ago, I read E-books on this TF-201 tablet. It got slow, I put it away...
Recently I decided it would be nice to read books AGAIN on my Asus tablet (nice big screen).
My TF-201 seems to work fine, it claims YOUR SYSTEM IS UP TO DATE.
After the factory reset, it seems to connect to wi-fi fine, accesses my GMAIL fine.
Android version is 4.1.1 & I understand there are no other available android updates...

I'd be happy if my tablet could AGAIN do the seemingly simplest things...
Like connect to the Play Store & download an app, right?

I search for the simple E-reader "LIBBY", the Play Store finds it...
And UNBELIEVABLY reports YOUR DEVICE ISN'T COMPATIBLE WITH THIS VERSION.

Almost anything else I try to do in Play Store produces an error like Error retrieving info from server...
As-is, can I do some simple tablet updates to restore any functionality?

Should Play Store work? Should I be able to do app updates? I checked the auto-update apps box in the settings.
The app Libby (by Overdrive) links-to & downloads from a digital online library for free.

Can I, if necessary, download Libby from a secondary source, install it (approve installs from secondary sources), & expect it to work?
If I can't get it to run Libby, it's pretty worthless / useless, eh?
Any suggestions appreciated, definitely NOT planning to go to Android school to reload an OS, LOL.
I want to use it, or find it a new home, TIA.

LOL, it isn't working... can't browse, can't YouTube, can't Play Store.
    GMAIL does work...
I guess I'll have to work on resurrecting it after all.
Tutorial on flashing ROMs, LOL ???
    TIA, Den.

Posted 2x, not sure anyone is here to read posts anymore.
Shame this nice pc of hardware requires someone doing cartwheels to make it useful again.
Think I'll buy the Amazon 10.1" 32G Fire with 8-core processor for $99, be in tablet heaven maybe.
Or $129 gets wireless charging & RAM upgrade to 4GB.
Functionality you can only dream about for our orphaned Asus tablets.
Will give my TF201 to my nerdy neighbor kid to, well, whatever.... flash it, LOL.
    Good luck to all.
