    Opening photos on Asus Transformer

Hi there, I am brand new here, so if I ask a dumb question (more than likely) I apologise in advance.

We bought a transformer prime to take on an overseas trip. Everything worked pretty well except for the occasional issue with WIFI.

    Here is the issue.

Whilst away we took photos with 2 different cameras, one a Panasonic, and the other a Samsung. We transferred all the photos on to the tablet easily enough. However when we go to view the photos the Panasonic ones open no problem, but the Samsung ones will not open. It says it is processing, but nothing happens, even after many minutes.

I can get the details of the photos in the menu in the top right hand corner (and they open fine on PC). The only difference I can see from the details is that the Panasonic ones are 4000x3000 size and the Samsung ones are 4224x2376.

I can only assume that this is the problem. If so, can anything be done about it? If not, any other suggestions.

    Thank You

It could certainly have to do with the size of the images. If you just want to view them on the tablet, resize them to something like the Prime's resolution (1280×800?). There's no advantage in higher resolution unless you want to make prints.

You should be able to view them in the QuickPic app. If not I would be surprised.

Thanks Guys, that was quick! I havent tried Quickpic, which I have read a fair bit about this morning and will get onto when I get home.

In regards to the resizing, can you give me a clue on how to do that! (I warned you I would be asking dumb questions).

If you don't ever have large prints made from your photos, the easiest thing is to lower the capture resolution in the camera. Despite the constant escalation of "megapixels" in cameras, most people don't have any need for a resolution higher than that of the screen they'll be viewing on. I typically shoot at 5 megapixels, which leaves plenty of leeway for cropping and still having a full-screen image on my large PC monitor.

Almost any photo-editing software on PC or Android will allow you to resize an existing image. Choose the resampling option - this means that the number of pixels will be reduced, rather than just the print size. There are also apps that do batch resizing, but I haven't used them so I have no recommendations.

A web search will lead to tutorials, I'm sure.

If you want a free, easy to use photo editor, grab Irfanview. To resize with it, point it to your picture folder--open a pic, then hit Ctrl+R...that is the keyboard shortcut to pop up the resize menu. There are a few pre-sets, or you can enter the resolution you want....save and you're done.

    Back again.

Tried Quicpick, no go. Comes up with message "load failed".

Tried another app called Photo Editor. This one showed a thumbnail in a preview screen but when you click on it it comes back with "Īnvalid File Format".

    Back to the drawing board!

OK then, we have the answer there.

What format are the photos in?

Another question - your profile says you have a tf101, you have posted in a tf101 section, but your OP says you bought a Prime (tf201).

Which device do you have, please?

Sorry guys, I did warn you I was new (read dont have a clue!).

I have an Eee Pad Transformer Prime with the dock. Now that I read the extremely fine print on the back, I think its a TF201.

The format? Good question! The exact error message says Invalid File format:file:///storage/sdcard0/paris/SAM_0029.JPG.

The ones that do work show as storage/sdcard0/paris/P1020705.JPG.

The only difference I can see is that SAM is the Samsung camera, and P is the panasonic one.

Thanks for your kind assistance so far.
