Cold Boot gone wrong? and Trying to update to jellybean

Back from vacation and want to download JB. Did the cold boot-but my android guy is laying on his back with a red exclamation point coming out of him!!! What should I do? I left him there, and now my tablet has started up on it's own. What was THAT about? I have cold booted in the past and not had that happen. I held down power and volume...the tab would vibrate after 8-10 seconds but not come on. I did that a few times, and then I got the poor android guy on his back. Tablet started up on its own just now, but I doubt it cold booted.

You entered recover by pressing the volume up button. The first part where the screen stayed black was apx mode. Cold boot is pwr and volume down until you see 2 icons, then just let it sit, stay away from that vol up button and you should be fine.

Thank you...so the firmware updated, I did a successful cold boot, but now I can't find the update to download it. I went to settings-about tablet-system firmware update, and there is nothing there. Android version 4.0.3 is what shows. "Failed to download file. Please wait for a moment and try again". But the grayed button never changes to blue so that I can press it again.

After 3rd cold boot it says i have a system firmware update-check notifications. Where is the notification? There is nothing in the lower right corner...just update notification for apps.
