Wife broke the Pins on Prime 201 /cry

    Hi Everyone,

So I'm in Chicago for training, and I left my Prime at home for my wife to use on the Train ride to meet me from Michigan. I remote into my computer to copy some movies and she says "I can't get it to plug in, I don't want to force it.". Well crap I'm thinking. So she sends me a few pictures and it looks like she opened the case without disconnecting the power plug and bent/broke the pins where you charge your prime. Does anyone know if this is even fixable, or if I can get a replacement board for cheap? Any help would be appreciated. The prime is only three months old .2012-06-28_21-37-52_829.jpg

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Welcome to the forum.

It looks like the pins are still there, if you have a steady hand and patience you may be able to straighten them.

It just happens that it costs about $500 for a woohoo nowadays... but I'm sure that's out of the question.

Try to straighten the pins. It just happens that I can't find any of the female proprietary for the prime. Got plenty for the tf101, though. For the prime, it's tapered off. So, even I wouldn't be able to fix this. Shocker, I know.

I wish you the best of luck on straightening those pins.

If you have no luck the only thing I can think of is looking on EBAY or Craigs list for a cheap non working 201 and using it for parts.

Not a chance. Part of what I do for extra cash on the side is get these guys dead on ebay, restore them to life, and resell them. It is incredibly hard to come across a dead 201 these days for some reason. A month ago, it was a lot easier. Nowadays, it's impossible to find one for cheap. I say that because right now there is a single tf201 listed as non-working. The seller wants $350 for it. Don't know how he came up with that number for a non-working one. Just 2 weeks ago, I was able to get a non-working one for about $200. I restored it to life and got a decent profit from it.

    RMA success!

Well I tried to fix it, and it looks like what happened is the plastic piece inside the transformer completely broke off exposing all the wires. So I called Asus yesterday and said it “broke off in the power adapter when I pulled it out” and they gave me an RMA number. Sending it out monday for repair, hoping it comes back in working condition . I looked for non-working Transformers in my surrounding area and there were zero.

So anyway, no success in repairing. Looks like I will just have to wait to see if it comes back fixed or not.

    Thanks for the replies everyone,

    Same thing happened to me...

    Hi,

I just stumbled upon your post as the exact same thing happened to me... wife bend the pins forcing the plug in the prime. I have been straightening them and it worked for a few but now it won't charge anymore. Have you had any luck with the RMA? Is Asus charging for it and is it cover by the warranty? That connection is really poorly made and very flimsy, i saw that they adjusted it in the new version.

    Thanks,
    Splee1

I have the same issue and I'm going to attempt to replace the charging port. Here is the link to the part: Asus IO DOCK FPC R1.3

Here is a link to just the pins w/out the ribbon cable: Taiwan Dock Receptacle I/O Connectors from Jhongli Manufacturer: Aces Electronics Co., Ltd. However, replacing just this requires greater soldering skills than I have.

I'll let you know how it turns out.
This is what my pins look like:
    Focus Result 5 (A, 10, 4).jpg

When I took it apart I noticed one of the pins not shown in this pic was actually pushed through to the other side.

I also had this problem and I bought the replacement cable from Ali Express TF201_IO_DOCK_FPC R1.1 $35.00 I was able last night to take the transformer apart and replace it But I in all of the youtube vids I cannot find how it connects at the other end. I sent an email to the supplier to see if I can get the proper information. If anyone knows the answer please advise.
