    Welcome to the forum

Though this may sound obvious, have you checked the volume by looking in the notification area?

Is it not working only in MKV files or only with the players you mentioned?

I am having this exact problem. So frustrating. I think it happened after an MX Player update. V player apparently will play them, but the quality is not even close. I have also tried uninstalling and playing around with the decoder settings and have had no luck. MP4 and other videos play fine.

Have you tried changing the audio decoder? In MXplayer, there's a musical note icon in the top left corner...tap it to swap decoders...solved it for me in MX...but I know there's also MKV files that MX can't play the audio on due to formatting...

    Cheers

Instead of MX Player try using Dice or BS Player.

With mx player, upper right hand corner there are 3 buttons. The middle (the one with 2 musical notes) controls the sound. Just press it and switch it to another sound track.

Just keep this in mind. These player apps don't know any better. You need to try around with the settings and tracks to figure out which ones play.

I Can't get any sound with some mkv's in either mx player or dice player. And I've tried changing from HW to SW (which I expected to work), and even selecting the stream in MX.

BS player managed it though. (I haven't checked all my movies though)

Found this info which seems like it could be related, stating tegra 3 doesn't have any built in support for AC3 audio, which many MKV's use ...:

I know exactly why you are having this problem: due to licensing issues, DTS audio codec playback support has been removed from the latest updates to MX Player (version 1.6g and 1.6h) and Dice Player (version 2.0.7). You can read this in the Play Store update changes to these apps.

I have not updated either of these players since reading this. My older versions of MX and Dice players, 1.6f and 2.0.6 respectively, still play DTS audio fine.

Most .mkv HD movies I have use DTS audio, and yours likely do too.
