Question about installing microSDHC card on prime

    Hello all,
I'm quite an app whore and recently filling up all the built-in storage, so I'm thinking about purchasing a microSD card for my Prime.
I came across the Patriot class 10 32gb card, has anyone tried this or anything similar?
Patriot LX Class 10 microSDHC 32GB Flash Memory Card With SD Adapter - Patriot - PSF32GMCSDHC10

Also, is there any steps that I should follow when installing the card, or do I just put it in the microSD card slot on the tablet? And lastly, how do I move apps into the SD card?

Thank you in advance, please give me some advice!

    David

    Hi David ,

Since its 32GB you do not have to do anything just plug it in , if it was 64GB micro SD then you will have to format it to NTFS.

Patriot , and class 10 is blazing fast and recommended , good choice

As for moving apps to SD card there is an app called "App2SD"

From my experience, the ASUS Eee Pad's do not support moving apps2SD. Some devices do, but this is just not one of them.

You can put movies, music and pictures on the microSD, but you can really mess up your apps and make your tablet unstable trying to move them to the microSD.

Yes, App2SD was made for Gingerbread (and possibly FroYo) mostly because phones did not have much if any internal memory to store apps.

Most devices with HoneyComb, ICS and JB have plenty of internal disk space that moving apps to an SD card is not necessary.

Also, it is not universal because each device OEM decides where to mount external storage.

    Asus mounts it in /Removeable/microSD
    Acer mounts it in /mnt/External_SD
    Samsung mounts it in /mnt/sdcard/microSD

It is hard to work with this since each device has a different mount point.

Yes this has been my experience too... on the one hand, I have all the apps that I am likely to have and still have 24 of 32 GB on board memory left. On the other hand it seems to be a bit of a shame not to be able to use external storage to keeps APPs in. On balance I must admit that I am a little disappointed about it. It would be good for example to be able to keep password security or contact management software in portable storage so its accessible from anywhere an is not lost when the device is lost, stolen or breaks down.

it could just be me, it wouldn't be the first time but regardless of size i have to date not had a single card which came formatted exfat work in my prime. i have had to do a quick ntfs on my pc then replace in the prime. if your experience with exfat is different it would be good to add to the thread, just a thought.
