That really sucks, man.
The only solution is the one you tried already-- those connectors are surface-mount devices, and really are not well suited to hand re-soldering-- 40 pins in too-tight a package for ordinary human skill.
But if you scour the interwebs for a really quality picture of the socket as it is supposed to look? And blow that up (zoom in)? And maybe even print it out, as a reference guide? And get a magnifying glass too-- and a pair of fine tweezers or perhaps a darning needle?
You might be able to straighten them out.
Otherwise, RMA is your only other choice-- and it may not be covered too. I'd be sure and ask.
