[SOLVED] Grey WIFI sign - what does it mean

    Hi guys ,

I face a strange issue . Sometimes the WIFI sign on the low right corner of the screen is gray without showing the WIFI signal strength at all . The strange thing is that when it is happen , the wifi signal is OK , very close to its maximum possible , but the color of the sign is still gray .

It started to be like this since I installed the Battery XL software which makes the battery more efficient according to the different tasks of the tablet .

How should it be fixed in order to get the blue sign of the WIFI again .

    Tnx ,
    DJ

From what I understand, the grey wifi sign means you're hooked up to your internet connection.
The blue wifi sign means your hooked up to your internet connection and google services.
Occasionally, if my wifi has been turned off, it will do the flash grey thing .... then kicks into the blue. Blue Bayou.
I'm not sure how you'd go about changing it--I figured it was a connection to google services issue,
but if you've just noticed it after installing the battery ding-ama-jibby, perhaps uninstall the battery app and see
if you're blue bayou again. ok? ok.

What may be happening is that the Battery XL kills Google Sync (Settings - Accounts & Sync). Killing Google Sync means the tablet is not checking for new gmail, application updates, picasa photos, Google+ Updates, etc.

Now, if you have sync enabled, grey wifi typically means that you do not have an internet connection. But, grey wifi does not always mean that you do not have an internet connection. It only indicates whether your device can communicate with Google servers.

Do you have a Google Account on your tablet?

    Settings - Account - Google

Also, do you have an active internet connection?

For me, grey wifi = no internet, only connected to a WiFi AP. At hotels and restaurants you usually have to go authenticate and/or pay for service. At home sometimes I just need to reboot my router and cable modem.

Being a newish member I have always thought that the grey Wi-fi symbol meant that the machine was looking for a Wi-fi signal, and the blue meant that it had found one, and the number of [blue] bars indicated the signals streangth. What I don't know is why from time to time there is a sort of pulse which travels up the middle of the icon, unless thats an indication of activity, data being received or sent.

Empty Pie (Outline of symbol, but black) means WiFi is on, and not connected. There may or may not be WiFi access points in the area. The, there are 2 arrows that flash, an up and a down. Up is sending, down is receiving.

Here is a picture showing most of the WiFi states:

    From left to right:
    WiFi On and no connection
WiFi Connected, no connection to Google Servers and not transmitting or receiving
WiFi Connected, no connection to Google Servers, sending and receiving data
WiFi Connected, connected to Google Servers, not transmitting
WiFi Connected, connected to Google Servers, receiving (downloading) data
