How to access files from an external storage device?

    Hi

I've recently got an ASUS Transformer Prime ( TF201) and I'm trying to retrive a file from my external storage device - a external Hard disk and attach the file to email.
I can get to browse the external storage device and see the file I want ( an MS Word document) but I can't figure out how to attach that on to a mail.
I use the Yahoo mail app for emailing. I can see the icon for attachments - the paper clip symbol but when I click that, it does not display the external storage device on the list
I don't know if I can copy the file from my external storage device on to my Transformer Prime either - which may have provided a two step process to attach the file

    Please help.

    Cheers
    Vivek

It may be the Yahoo app.
My Gmail app lets me attach files from an external drive.
In the file explorer long press the file and select copy, go to the internal storage and paste
Or try long pressing on the file and select Share, see if Yahoo is one of the option

    Welcome Vivek

I think your easiest solution might be to browse to the file then long press it. You should get an option that would lead you to attaching the file to an E-Mail message. Many of the E-Mail apps just don't handle external storage well.

    Red face Thanks

    Thanks Guys,

I managed to do it by browsing the external storage device using File manager, checking the check box next to the file ( which enabled the copy option), copied the file and saved it to my down loads. I was able to attach it using the Yahoo app after that.

Funny thing is when I tried accessing Yahoo mail through the browser and attaching the file, it kept throwing up an error 'File in error'. I was able to attach a small word document that way though ( one with two lines) but my document with 2 pages of text could not be attached.

Anyway problem solved. Thanks again for all your help

    Cheers
    Vivek
