    HDMI/Sound issues?

This is the second of two issues (the first being the USB port) on my Prime. I have searched for answers and neither one seems to be addressed.

I've used my Prime along with a projector to show videos that I've taken. I purchased a Samsung (way cheaper than ASUS) connection to go from the HDMI port to the VGA of the projector. Fast and easy, works like a charm. Except for the sound. It's as if the speaker goes dead if the HDMI port is used. I've experimented a bit and plugged in a speaker to the headset port and lo and behold, some sound does come out. Disconnect the peripheral speaker and nothing. Reboot, try again. Still, no sound out of the Prime's speaker when the HDMI port is being used. I don't recall this was the same when I used my laptop, so it seems it's unique to the Prime.

Is this an issue anyone else has experienced? Just the way the port works? Or could it be related to the Samsung connection vs. the ASUS??

    Many thanks!

    Kim

Hey Kim I'm not sure. I would try hooking it up to a projector that has an HDMI connection on it as that is how the Prime was developed to work. I know that when you plug into an HDMI port on a TV you are supposed to get both video and audio.

Unfortunately, this is the only projector I have access to, so I can't test it. :-/

    Thanks, tho' ~

You're welcome. I remember hooking up my laptop to the back of my TV via an VGA cord and I don't think I got sound like that either.

This is pretty much what I've got too.

VGA is not designed to carry around whereas HDMI is, so when you plug the adaptor in ( I've got the ASUS one) the printing thinks it's outputting HDMI and disables the internal speaker. There's a chip in the adaptor that converters the digital HDMI signal into an analogue one.

You can still plug speakers and headphones into the audio jack. I'm heading out later to possibly buy some wireless speakers or headphones and I'll report back later if they work.

It would have nice to be able to force the prime to play audio to the internal speaker even with an HDMI adaptor connected.
