    Charging with a different plug

    Hi,

new to the forum, but loving my prime. A few teething problems, but still think it is the dogs.

Anyway, left my plug at work and am trying to charge the unit using various USB plugs. Has anyone had issues using non Asus plugs. I've had problems with phones and mini/micro usb cables not charging because of the pin setup. However, I have 3-4 different usb plugs and none are charging.

    Any clues or similar experiences.

    Steve B

I'd be very careful given so many problems. I had overheating issues when charging, even with the proper plug.

If I read your question correctly by USB plug you mean the part the plugs into the wall outlet?
If so, the voltage from most usb plugs is only 5v, the ASUS plug is 15v

If you mean the USB cable you need a USB 3 cable

kgragert.... are you implying you *CAN* charge the TFP from a USB3 lead (connected to a USB3 port on a pc) ??

[later] .... hmmm seems not, USB3 spec doesn't push out more V's

    All, simple answers here
    1. The tf needs 15v to charge so AFAIK the only available charger that does this is the Asus one
    2. The tf wil charge from USB but only at about 1% an hour & (I believe) ony when switched off
    3. Any extensions to the charging cable MUST be USB 3 (not 2)

    There you go...
