Need help with copying files please

Hello all! new to the forum, and new owner of a tf201. i love it so far; however, it fails to copy files from my android phone. I have a galaxy s Samsung with pictures and soe music on it. i connect through usb on the docking station. it took some time and several attempts for the prime to recognize the phone. once it did, i went to the file icon, and found my files on the phone. i tried to copy and paste from phone directory to prime directory for my photos and music, and I get a message of "failed to paste" ??? not sure what the problem is. any insight would be great. Is there an easier way? Next step is to remove sd card from the phone and plug that in. I just dont understand why it fails to copy and paste files.
    thanks for the help!
    Eric

Although not same issue as you, I cannot copy (music) files into Music folder so this may be nothing to do with the Galaxy S (other than it recognizing the connection) but a permissions issue?

Hi, The easiest way to solve this is that you stop trying to do it this way & either use Dropbox - free download from the market to both your phone & tablet - then you can copy files without getting the lead out and all that faff.

Alternatively, move files by copying to the microSD in your phone & then putting it in your tf. Or vica versa.

Finally, try some different file managers. There are several that are free on the market. Personally, I use Astro.

I know this doesn't answer the question "why" but to be honest, does it matter if you can copy the files from one device to another? I copy files between my Galaxy S, my tf101 & my wife's 7" tablet in the ways I have suggested.

I hope this means I qualify as one "of the very helpful people on here"

As an additional thought if you ARE committed to USB transfer try creating a new folder on your tablet called "fromphone" or whatever, and try copying into that, as some "system type" folders in android are treated differently than others by the OS. When the files are on the tablet you could probably put them into your music folder from there.

Sorry, but this just isn't working for me....

Using bog standard File Manager I select a mp3 file from a folder on Internal Storage, select Copy, then go into Music folder and press Paste ... gives a "Paste files failed." error

    No need to apologise...

Can't understand that - I've done the same thing on my tf101 - copied 2 mp3s from the microsd & pasted them into music on the internal storage.

Try a reset on your tf201 - the little hole next to the microsd slot, use a paper clip. It won't wipe your data. Then try again & report back

The easiest way by far is by using 'drop box as was suggested above. I use it on my I pad, TF101, Droid x, Toshiba laptop and dell desktop. You are always dealing with the master file which is automatically synced to other locations. You sign up and get 2 gig free and inviting others that join you get an additional 250,000mg for each one. You can also buy additional store age that's on oar with other sites costs.

eeglot; not trying to take over your question (I think it's part of your issue anyway)

janner43: Still doesn't work... even after a reset.

Tried copying a jpg into Pictures (/mnt/sdcard/Pictures) and get same issue as copying an mp3 into /mnt/sdcard/Music - could it be that this is Google blocking access to these folders?
