Jaffa - can you copy files between other folders within internal memory? If so, I would...

    1. copy all the music from the music folder into a folder called music1 and then delete the original music folder.
    2. Reset your prime
    3. See if the music folder has reappeared - if yes, try copying back into it. If not open the music player & play some music from music1 & then check to see if the music folder has been recreated. If it has, try copying into it again. If not, create it again yourself and try copying into it again.

The whole thing sounds suspiciously like the sort of bug commonplace to the new release of a new version of an os - ICS in this case.

Thanks for suggestion janner43, will try that tonight.

As you say, new OS, new oddities

(I'm not sure I like the Google music app, it seems to 'discover' music in other folders in a random manner, there's no [Refresh] option that I see. Suddenly today the music in other folders appears and its been in those folders for several days... while I try to copy it into Music...... )

Thanks for all the info guys. I found that making a seperate directory worked. I tried plugging in the micro card from the phone and it still would not copy directly to the music directory etc. I created a new directory that was empty and was able to copy and paste.
thanks to everyone for the help and info!

So i Bought a TF201 yesterday and updated it to ICS.

I have the same issue as OP. the /sdcard/Music & /sdcard/pictures folders are well and truly locked.

(its not just from windows, its totally locked from any method, cannot copy to or delete from those folders)

As a work around I have created a new folder /sdcard/audio and that works fine..

I rooted the Tab to see if i could delete the sample images and music from those folders with SU but still no love.

I tried a terminal emulator and the permissions on those folders are the same as all the rest (full access)

at this point its no big deal but i am very curious as to why these 2 folders would be locked in this way..

i have emailed Asus asking the question and When/If i hear back i will let you know.

unfortunately i didn't try the folders before upgrading to ICS. wondering if anybody who hasn't upgrade still has this issue ?

    Cheers
    Jim

I think a factory reset after a significant OS update (not an incremental one) should always be done.

Yes, to quote a dubious BBC show - "total wipe out"

Had a feeling that was going to be the answer

I just know this is going to bug me (and also what other oddities may be fixed by a reset) so think I'm going to go for it.

So one more question (as you've been so helpful so far).... is there a good way to list all installed apps to then reinstall them after a reset (or even a utility to do it for you)?
    And....
What about purchased apps... I take it if I use the same account info then I should be able to just reinstall them?

Until today I've had a perfect transformer! Using any file manager, I could copy 1Gb files very quick across my wireless network.
My son wanted to borrow the transformer, so I did a factory reset, then adding a few useful apps, e.g. ES File Explorer, dual battery widget, etc.
I also decided to convert some videos for him to watch on the plane, using DVD Catalyst (which is astonishingly good at producing much reduced file sizes with hardly any loss in quality).
Then I opened ES File Explorer, went to the right folder on my PC and attempted a 400MB file copy. After a few minutes, I got a message saying the copy had failed. This occurred for several files, using both ES File Explorer and Astro, to no avail.
I'm stumped by this. Internet access is as fast as it ever was, yet file copies just don't work.

    Any ideas?
