    Hdmi, no sound.

Hello, I finally got my transformer prime yesterday.
Today I hooked it up to my Pioneer Kuro 50" Plasma TV.
I get a picture but I am not getting any sound.
I just have a normal micro hdmi 1.4 cable.
The prime has the latest FW updates.

Afterwards I tested with my Blackberry playbook and it all worked just fine. Picture and sound with the same cable and the same input on the TV.

I also tried my Motorola Xoom and it also works find with the same cable etc. I get picture and sound with it no problem.

I can't quite figure out why the sound is missing with the Prime.

I did a search on the forums and there doesn't seem to be a talk about this issue.

    Thanks,

    -- Sanjay

Well, just had some more strange results. My TV is the Pioneer 5010 Plasma.
I now tried to connect the Prime to my Denon 2807 Receiver instead and it works fine. I get both picture and sound.
I am not sure where the problem is now. With the TV or the Prime?
I would guess maybe the Prime because both the Playbook and Xoom work fine connected directly to the TV.
Unfortunately I can't just walk into a store right now and pick up another Prime to test.

If it helps anyone that experiences this same problem, this is how I got it to work in my case.
Discovered it pretty well by accident after trying a factory reset and a hard reset even.
That didn't work so I tried playing around with the volume control some more.

What worked was turning the volume on the tablet all the way down (mute it) and then connect the hdmi cable and turn the volume up.
It doesn't control the volume level off course, you just have to unmute it and there it is sound from the TV.

I don't know why the Prime is peculiar this way (or if it's only my unit)? Or maybe it's some unique interaction with my TV? I don't know.

Anyone else have to do the same when connecting with hdmi?

Again I don't know why the Asus is weird this way as my Playbook and the Xoom (which I will be returning tomorrow) work just fine as expected.

Oh well, at least I didn't have any WiFi problems or dead pixels or light bleed.

There was a HUGE thread about hdmi issues when the tf101 came out. Many issues there were related to Panasonic screens, yet I had no issue with mine.

Various firmware updates have largely solved the problem there. It seems like there are some minor hdmi compatability issues - sometimes.

Having said all of that, I'm glad you resolved your problem & thanks for posting this thread. It will benefit others, no doubt about it.

    Got this cable
Amazon.com: Mediabridge FLEX Series- High Speed Micro-HDMI to HDMI Cable with Ethernet (6 Feet): Electronics

Worked great, gorgous picture and sound on my new Panasonic 32" TV, but on our older Panasonic, there was no sound, which I assumed was because it was an older version of HDMI?

If that isn't it then maybe I will try this suggeston

Definitely a problem with Panasonic's. I have linked my prime via hdmi to panasonic, get picture but no sound. This doesnt seem to be a codex issue. Dont really wanted to pull out for a new TV, do we thing firmware updates will fix this issue? Do all orginal TF101's know play sound via hdmi?

Well, they are supposed to, (but then they always were) but the difficulty is apparantly that the HDMI standard isn't completely standardised across manufacturers. It doesn't seem to be an issue with domestic style av items, but as anyone who has had a blu ray player will tell you, updating firmware will solve all sorts of issues, so this isn't a unique situation.
