    HDMI port durability question

Yo! newbie here, picked up an hdmi to micro hdmi cable for my tf201 a couple weeks ago and love using it to watch videos on the big screen, but the port on the tablet is making me extremely nervous, it feels like it's going to break something if i pick it up flat with the cable plugged in if i'm not holding the cable and it can flex to a disturbing degree. am i being paranoid or is this port really that flimsy? anyone able to shed some light on how durable this is?

Whoops you maybe in for a problem. Read here Prime HDMI Success

Mine actually worked good for the first couple weeks then it got loose and would never register again on the TV so I just waited until an opportune time and called Asus to get an RMA and they paid the shipping! My tablet was gone to them for 10-12 days total so it wasn't the end of the world and it works fine now.

Really? it seems more of a design issue than the actual port being bad. the connector is not loose it fits snugly the paranoia issue comes from the curved edge exposing part of the plug when it's inserted allowing it room to flex. if that's not the case on most of them i may indeed need to RMA.

Yes the problem is that the port actually breaks loose from the motherboard and Asus must open the unit and re-solder it.

    Hi Mickey,

I have a question. How did you know your port was loose? Did you hear something rattling on the inside of the tablet or was it a process of elimination? I am having trouble getting my TFP to display on my TV and I have a feeling it could be the port on my tablet.

No rattle as it isn't completely loose, just enough that it doesn't work. When you plug in the HDMI cable to your Transformer if the port is working you should get a notice in the notification area that the HDMI cable is hooked up. When mine was broken I could plug the cable in and nothing would show up.

My HDMI port went bad and I had to send it in for RMA. While it originally worked, I noticed it getting very loose. When it no longer worked I noticed that the cable was very loose in the port. Sent it in for RMA (about 2 weeks total time) and now everything work great and the connection is dramatically tighter.
If there is no HDMI notfication when you plug it in, and your connection is very loose, you have a bad HDMI port and will need to RMA.

Thanks for the info you guys. I will have to RMA my TFP. I wonder if I can convince ASUS to improve my WIFI while they fix the HDMI port?
