Does the Wifi problem influences the download but NOT the upload speed ?

    Hi guys ,

I own a TFP for about 3 months and I really enjoy it . As many of you I have some speed problems over WIFI and the download speed is degrades as much as I'm walking away from the router .
The strange thing is that ONLY the download speed degrades when the upload speed is at its maximum on every single point I measure it . I don't use the upload speed too much on this device but I wonder if the problem is the metalic back case on the TFP , as stated by Asus , why does it influences the download speed and DOES NOT have any influence on the upload speed at all ?
If the reception strength problem is related to the metalic body , why does it influence the upload speed as well ?

    DJ

The short answer is that there should be no effect. In theory the upload and download speeds should maintain the same % increase or decrease. It's all relative and dependent on your router and Internet speed. There is the problem of the server on the other end. Some servers do a better job in either or both directions than others.

That is what I'm thinking too . But considering this theory , the upload speed should be affected as well , especially if the reason of the degradation on the signal's strength is really the aluminum case of the TF201 .
But , in practice , what happens is that the upload speed is unaffected but only the download speed . So , if the cause of it , was as stated , the material of the case , the TF210 wasn't supposed to behave this way .
My conclusion is that the reason of the bad wifi download speeds is not the case but probably a bad part that allows only the upload speed to work properly but not the download over wifi .

I assume you are testing your wifi using something like Speed Test. You are connected to your wifi router at home going out to some server.

Connection to your router(54 Mbps if you are on G, 100+ if you are on N)
Connection from your router to server - Download(Only you know this, but the average I'm guessing is 10Mbps, if you have anything over 30Mbps you are a rare case)
Upload(Normally 1Mbps, again anything higher and you are a rare case.

The TF201 issues would affect the first speed and therefore would limit the later speeds. If your max speed to your router drops to 5Mbps, then clearly your upload speed isn't going to drop since you are capping out before you hit the TF201 limit.

Now if you are testing using internal wifi speeds going to an internal computer, I'd like to know what app you are using because I've been looking for something to test this.
