How the 48-pin connector may affect the WIFI and the GPS

    Hi guys ,
Can anyone explain how the data/power connector of the TF201 may influence the GPS and WIFI performance ?
The very much expected "DONGLE" that a few of you commented that for sure will be released by Asus ( I am still skeptical ) can influence the GPS or the WIFI performance ?
And if it does influence it , why we don't see any other auxiliary accessories supplied by Asus connected to the TF201 through this port ?

    DJ

There are a couple accessories that use the connector.

The "dongle" is more than likely a stand alone GPS dongle/receiver.

    Thanks Mike ,

But how does it connects to the whole TF201 interface ? The 48 pin connector has power pins and Data pins ( in the case it is docked to the docking station ) . How come that suddenly it can carry GPS and WIFI signals as well ? It wasn't designed for that ...

Inside the Prime there are chips that get GPS signals and Wifi signals. Clearly that data gets to the processor/OS somehow. There is no reason why that same data can't be created in a dongle and just sent through the 48 pin connector. I think you are expecting this to fix the parts inside the device, where it most likely is simply replacing them and bypassing them to the OS.

It won't improve your WiFi reception, the add-on is only for GPS.

The 48 pin connector has a few pins dedicated to power. It sounds to me as though the "dongle" just uses this connection for the power, and then provides the GPS co-ordinates over Bluetooth.

Although if the elves have been really busy, then it's certainly possible that they have successfully interfaced the GPS to the tablet without the need for Bluetooth.

the connector carries data and power via separate pins, just like it does when plugged into pc via usb,or when plugged into the dock. the gps attachment will most likely be just like a usb dongle, just a different connection interface and flattened design. this is pretty much the best and only option for them since many ppl dont have the dock so no usb port, and most would rather not have to always take their prime around w/ the dock and a dongle sticking out of it when they would want to be navigating

and what other accessories would u expect asus to have released that use the port, other than the dock?

Wow. I miss a week on here and there's all this dongle talk. Can't wait for the 16th. I want I want I want! I've been holding off buying a car mount because there wasn't much point with the GPS working so poorly.
