    Lock in Portait Mode?

    Hi all,

With the recent arrival of my Prime, I'm new to Android. I've been trying to figure out how to do this, but so far, no luck. How do you lock the screen in portrait mode? Often times (particularly when I'm laying in bed), I want to do this because holding it in landscape is awkward. I read something about holding down on the search button to lock orientation, but that doesn't seem to work on the Prime. I found some apps that turn the screen-rotation on/off, but those only lock into landscape (or not)...no option to lock in portrait. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks in advance.

While we're at it, does anyone know how to search the contents only on my Prime? Every time I try to search, it forces me to use a browser, which I definitely don't want. Is there a way to just search my device only?

Here is a pic of how to set your screen to not rotate. Just put the screen in portrait mode 1st and uncheck the auto rotation box that I have checked.Screenshot_2012-01-30-18-21-22.jpg

to lock the screen in landscape or portrait, just hold it in the position u want it, then press where the battery is, u will see the WiFi, GPS, automatic rotation, bluetooth icons, just unselect the automatic rotation (its like 2 semi circular lines with a rectangle inside) and it will keep the way u had it after u turned it off, it happened to me too when i am in my bed and thats how i found about it.

about ur other question, i dont have my prime now (returned for exchange) but i think there should be one in the file manager?

Yes File Manager has a search if you are looking for a file and email app has a search if you are looking for an email. I don't know of a universal search feature like the iPad has although that would be great!

On the iPad you can type

Ama and it brings up a list of things to choose from such as:

    Amazon app
    Amanda contact person
    Several emails
    American Airlines app
    America.doc

    It is an awesome feature!

OK, I am seeing it in File Manager HD but just realized it isn't actually picking up from the contacts data but from cache from one of my mail clients.

Yeah, that is really a cool feature that Apple has with their search function. It really comes in handy from time to time. I was hoping you were going to teach me a new trick!

With all the file managers out there, there must be one that will do that.

Thanks, all, for the helpful replies. So here's something super weird: If I put the Prime in portrait, then use the main/full settings menu to change the setting for "auto-rotate screen", it automatically flips back to landscape (then locks it in landscape). I also had an app that turned on/off the orientation lock at will, and it did the same thing when I hit it to turn lock on. But when I put it in portrait and then used the "quick settings" in the bottom right, it stays in portrait. Really odd.

Bummer on no device-specific search. I'll hunt for an app that might do this, but it's crazy to me that it's not native in the OS.
