Question Best way to root the transformer and un-root for warranty?

Hello all, I'm a newbie ant this whole idea of "rooting" and I need a bit of help and advice.
Right now I am looking into rooting my device so that I can re-install the original firmware due to the fact that my current stock firmware has some issues. My transformer is running on the latest 3.2.1 update and all of the rooting guides I found were for 3.1. Does anyone know of a website with a good guide for rooting 3.2.1?
Also just a side question, when I un-root my device, will my warranty be valid, and will I be able to get OTA updates? I've seen other forum posts about different phones and devices, but none were helpful. If anyone has had first hand experience with rooting then unrooting then sending your unit back to asus, or maybe has had a friend who has done so, please do tell!

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum!

First, if you are thinking of rooting, be sure to read this: What is Rooting on Android? The Advantages and Disadvantages | Droid Lessons

Next, the RazorClaw is the easiest method. 10 seconds to root. http://www.transformerforums.com/for...orclaw-v1.html

Then you can install CWM Recovery and flash your own custom ROM.

If you need to unroot, check this method, works as long as you have CWM Recovery installed: How To Unroot and Remove CWM Recovery on Asus Transformer | TheUnlockr

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks! But if I were to send it back to Asus after un-rooting it and re-installing original firmware, would they notice?

Using that unroot method, if the stock firmware is installed (and CWM will also be uninstalled) they will not notice.

Hi..I'm thinking of unrooting, love custom ROMS and trying new ones but with ICS somewhere on the horizon I'd like to get the OTA when its available. In reading the instructions on the link provided it states it only works on the US model. Would my solution be to go to ASUS and download the JP recovery files. Seems like the way but just would like to ask.

I am not sure. If you are using the NV Flash to unroot (first method) you can just use the JP firmware. If you are using the 2nd method, I am not sure if it will work or not. I would check the comments section of the unlockr post to see.

Thanks Frederuco. I was looking at the UnLockr method as my TF is a B70 and the files are linked to repacked US and US recovery.. the ASUS site has the 8.6.5.13(JP) download. I'll keep reading and if i post or try something i'll post results

    Update:
Followed the instructions to the letter. Was able to successfully unroot the device and get it back to the stock ROM using the repacked-8.2.3.13_US_without_SU_app.zip and 8239USrecovery.zip files. Version shows as 3.0.1 and I am getting market app updates such as PressReader, Maps, and Layar however, no system update continues to show no updates available. Not sure if that has anything to do with the US model vs JP model thing

    Update2:
Successfully updated to Android version 3.2.1, Kernel version 2.6.36.3, Build # HTK75.US_epad-8.6.5.13-20110925.

    How:
    1. Read, research, re-read
    2. Follow steps in Frederuco's signature for flashing B70 back to stock
    3. Follow steps in Frederuco's signature for Stock Firmware Update Issues? (Manual Update)

Point: My TF was originally JP model. so not sure if I'll have to continue to do manual updates...but, no hard or soft bricking, no problems.

    so far (famous last words?)

okay, now i've done it. it seems that my Eee Pad no longer wants to
    1. root with Razorclaw, so i had to do it the hard way
    2. auto-restore all of my apps, which it was doing before, and during when I was running the prime! rom.
