I haven't rooted any of my tablets yet (I have a TF201 and a TF700T), there is a very specific issue which may lead me to root one of them, but in general I get by just fine by disabling the bloatware applications that I don't need. That can be done with a normal non-rooted device via Settings->Apps . I'm thinking of handing over my TF201 to my father (depending on if he'll get internet at his winter home or not), and I won't root it. There's no need really.

I'm glad to see this new root method because the TF201 TABLET is a excellent tablet. I myself rooted my TF201 with the first method that came out for it in 2011.

As this eliminates the need to unlock the bootloader, think I'll do this tonight at work. I'm tired of not having a proper HOSTS file compared to the utterly pointless HOSTS file included with Android. Having used a reliable firewall and well maintained HOSTS file on my Windows boxes has let me run AV software free for over a decade. I miss that comfort plus blocking those ad sites really aids in speeding up whatever browser I'm using at a given moment.

I down loaded motochop, unzipped it and tried to root the tablet, it didn't work all it said was the adb server was out of date, then one line said daemon started successfully , then sometimes it will find the device and the next line will read adb server our of date killing and then device not found

I just loaded the Asus Sync and the drivers before I started, I'm using that crap windows 8 as well , which may be the problem as I cant do a sync, the computer sees the prime a a drive but the prime cannot find the sync on the desktop

Just rooting provides no performance change by itself, so that would be a placebo effect.

Which brings up the question, how do I improve performance. My TF-201 is often slow to the point I want to throw it against the wall. Is there anything that shortens that wait? I can live with all the other shortcomings.

My old TF201 (had it a year before I bought the TF700T) isn't slow at all, it's snappy as always. But if yours is slow it may be because you have added and deleted a lot of files (or apps or something) which may lead to a particular kind of slowdown. If so, and you are rooted, then you could try installing 'lagfix' and run it. Search Play.

    Of course. I knew that.
The increase in performance is down to the new screen protector

Funny how you can convince yourself of things like this. Imagination is a wondrous thing
