Has anyone gotten the UnLocker "unknown error" problem fixed?

After being told by an Asus rep to upgrade to 4.1.1 to unlock the boot loader, I am not stuck. The took didn't work on ICS and now it still won't work on JB. I get the classic "an unknown error occurs, which may be a network connection issue. Please wait and try again later"

I asked the rep and he offered no further support. I read online that it is solved by either fixing your unknown serial (did that on ICS) or sending it in (I bought it used so I don't want to do that)

Anyway, are there any other methods to do this? Maybe something in ADB or fastboot? I really need custom ROMs!

AFAIK, the ONLY way to unlock the bootloader is to use the Asus unlock tool. I have heard that if you are rooted, the unlock tool fails as well. Not sure if you already rooted your tablet or not, but if so you should try unrooting (OTA Rootkeeper and do a temp unroot) and see if that helps unlock it.

I was rooted, but the rep told me to wipe from the stock recovery so I lost it. I'll try the unroot trick though.

This is so annoying that there are so many problems with Asus's tool

If you bought it used, are you sure it isn't unlocked already?

If you do a cold boot, I believe it will say something like this device is unlocked if it is indeed unlocked.

To unlock your bootloader you need Internet connectivity as it sends information to Asus servers. In my past experience, if the tablet is downloading new firmware (as it does automatically once it's available), you will not be able to unlock during the download. I've also had a full day of unlocking not working only to find it works the very next morning.

EDIT: If your tablet is unlocked, it will say "This device is unlocked" in the upper-left corner during boot.

Tried on ICS on my phone hotspot, on my home WiFi, and on my school WiFi. None work.

    Repeated with JB. None worked.

I don't understand why there would be only one option to do this, and its not working. I tried this over the last three days and nothing
