Downgrading firmware / custom rom / unlocking bootloader on TF201
Hi all,
I've been getting the hang of this device (TF201) gradually
I had it rooted with no problem but hadn't got as far as using Root Keeper before the latest firmware upgrade sneaked up on me and stopped me being able to root.
Honestly, it seems to me that Asus are engaged in a sort of guerilla warfare with their customers
Anyway, I digress. Apparently, if you downgrade the firmware to the .15 version you can root the device, install root keeper and then allow the latest upgrade, safe in the knowledge that you can use Root Keeper to re-root the device after the .21 upgrade.
Please can somebody tell me how to downgrade the firmware?
Thank you.

Did you try the factory reset?

I think you need to be rooted to downgrade (I could be wrong, but I think that's the way it works) I know there are a couple of threads around here about downgrading from ICS to honeycomb, you could search them out and start there. But for now, I think your stuck.
Just out of curiosity, why are you rooted?

I am not sure on the TF201, but I know you need to root and install ClockWorkMod Recovery (non-stock recovery) on the TF101 and SL101 to downgrade.
To do this on the TF201 I think you need to unlock the bootloader (which will specifically void the warranty and there is no way to re-lock it) before you can install CWM or some other non-stock recovery to downgrade.

Unfortunately, I'm not at the moment
I want to use things like titanium backup and also to experiment with other ROMs etc as well but it seems you can't do anything without root access.

I was going to install virtuous prime but can't see a way to do so without CWM and I can't get CWM because I don't have root access lol.
Seems like a merry-go-round doesn't it
Maybe I'll just have to wait until some kind soul manages to find another exploit to beat the .21 upgrade.
Thanks for the replies chaps

Use fastboot to install cwm.

OK, I tried that and I suspect I've probably dome something wrong
I booted into fastboot and selected the USB icon from the choice of three which gave me a message:- "Starting fastboot USB download protocol" and there it stayed
the DOS command prompt on my PC had the message "waiting for device".
I left them for 20 minutes and nothing happened. Please can somebody advise?
Thanks.
