    Asus Unlocks Transformer Prime Bootloader

After many customers had demanded it, Asus is releasing a tool to unlock the Transformer Prime’s bootloader.

Asus has announced plans to unlock the bootloader on its Eee Pad Transformer Prime and bring Android 4 to the device. After facing customer scrutiny for locking and encrypting the bootloader on the device, Asus announced plans to release an unlocking tool for the tablet/PC hybrid.

P90 the Bootloader does several things with the most important being, it allows us to install custom ROMs on our phones and in this case the Asus Transformer Prime. If you look around you will find lots of information on all the features of the Bootloader. In closing, Asus choose to encrypt the Asus Transformer Prime's bootloader, this angered many, many people, including myself, everyone voiced there concern to Asus, they subsequently agreed to provide a patch that would effectively remove the encryption.

And yes, it has not been released yet as I understand it.

I have a question. I have a Motorola Bionic which has a locked boot loader. But I can still install custom roms. So why is it different on the Prime? I'm sure there's something I'm missing or not understanding. If so, please forgive my ignorance.

A lot of developers have created tools to help unlock bootloaders I am not familiar with your device but you have probably downloaded some sort of unlocked for your phone.

Roms are possible with a locked bootloader, but usually have to be based on the stock ROM, as you can't use a custom kernel. However, 2nd init method has helped people load true custom roms based from source on the Droid x.

The title of this thread is really misleading; it makes it seem like the bootloader has already been unlocked.

It should be renamed Asus TO Unlock Transformer Prime Bootloader....

When doing a rom on your bionic it is doing a work around with the bootloader. An unlocked bootloader allows nearly unlimited possibilities of type of roms and customizations.
