Replacing keypad section of the dock?
So, I've done the dirty and spilt beer on my T201 keyboard/dock and it has fried/mashed the keyboard such that pressing 1 key results in several adjoining key presses also being detected
I have got as far as disassembling the dock with some nifty YouTube videos so that I now have the cover off, but it looks pretty impossible to remove just the keyboard part of the top section.
Does anyone know if this is possible and if so if it is then possible to either repair or replace just the keypad section? alternatively is it possible to replace the entire top section without replacing the bottom half which has the battery etc in? And again if so - where I might be able to get the parts - Google - and a quick search of this forum - does not seem to be helping me any beyond just getting the case apart and then the battery out (which I am not interested in).
Everything else seems to be functioning just fine so thought I might be able to save some money by just replacing the broken bits as opposed to buying a whole new keyboard/dock.
Any advice appreciated!!
thanks!
Phil

Sorry to hear of your drinking problem Phil.
I'm not sure I've seen too many places offering keyboard dock replacement parts...usually it's displays/glass etc. You could have a look thru this site. Not sure where you're located, but asus parts eu is bookmarked on my computer, perhaps you can dig around. I know there have been a few beverage/spillage threads posted, not sure how they were resolved though. Goodluck, hope you can get it sorted and if I run into any parts places in threads/searches I'll re-post....welcome to the forum.

You could also look on a site like ebay for used parts only docks and swap the top surface. There are 2 ribbon cables that you can disconnect, then put the new one on with the ribbon cables connected.

Thanks folks. Looks like that asus site has the keyboard part of the dock so that should do it. Strangely i struggled to even find the full dock replacement online. Just some American ones on ebay. Never mind, hopefully the new part will do the trick!

I spilt wine on mine ,couldnt find anyware to get the keyboard from ,no uk stockist wanted to know ,they couldnt /wouldnt price me a new replacement full uk spec doc ,they suggested I went direct to Asus .Asus told me that they have a strict policy of not dealing with end users and told me to contact a uk re seller ,
I claimed off my house insurance in the end ,they couldnt get anyware with replacing just the dock and were told that a repair would be more expensive than replacement ,
so I got a tf700 as a replacement ,I also kept the tf 201 ,I bought a chinese /USA style dock from a dealer in Taiwan £84 delivered it does the job great
I still have the damaged dock that has the same problems as yours ,the keypad section does come away after taking the ribbons out of the sockets ,also if I remeber right some sticky protective tape has to be removed ,to give access . hope you have better luck than I did finding parts.

Thanks for the tips guys - especially Eejit - I got the replacement keyboard from Asus EU, cost me about £80 but now all fully fixed and working. Phew... Expensive can of beer!!

You can also look at stores near your place, you can find lots there. Or Amazon, MiniSuit or Ebay
