I agree the UI is too light.

I've never had a problem a it smoothness on this tablet anyway so not noticed much difference. It's always been on par with my wife's N10

I put all my movies and music on my sd card
No problem viewing videos from my sd card

Yes unfortunately it does break the SD card. PS Runs very stable otherwise. Issues ASUS File manager works to write to SDcards others I had HD File Explorer Pro and Cheetah Sync are broken. Work around for Cheetah Sync in the Android folder but that causes other issues MX Player won't scan card correctly. Root fix works but haven't rooted my tablet, it is only 2 months old. If I am going to root the tablet then will just move over to Cyanogen Mod and be done with it. Anybody see anything else differently?

Power consumption on this version is extremely harsh. From a power application I noticed a pretty heavy 500mAh burn on the device. I finished off a book for 2 hours last night and let the tablet sit in idle mode and 65% of the battery was gone. The screen was dimmed way down. I also noticed that the auto brightness setting doesn't seem to work.

The device is super fast ... but it seems to be burning through battery super fast ....

No, I didn't go through that process at all. I simply updated from the OTA. I understand that there's a recommended process but haven't had time to go through the backups (which is a REAL pita with as many files and apps as I have). Somehow I doubt sincerely that doing all that will change the fact that the new OS consumes the crap out of battery...

One of the articles I read mentioned that 4.4 allows ART on select android hardware by tapping 7x in about phone/ tablet. Users reported enabling ART sped up apps AND ACTUALLY INCREASED BATTERY (I recall most of the positive feedback coming from nexus users), any ideas why it would now use the battery so fast?

Those are the new KitKat permissions. Only system apps are allowed to write to the external cards. Don't know what Google is thinking???? I guess they really want to force you to use cloud services.
For me that means I will only use a device running Kitkat if it can be unlocked and custom rom'd...

Install Gsam Battery Monitor to check what's eating the battery. And/or Wakelock Detector. But I found Gsam to give the best info on battery matters.

For everyone curious about the rationale for SD card changes in KitKat, here is humorous article from Jerry Hildenbrand at Android central. http://www.androidcentral.com/kitkat-sdcard-changes

I will be rerunning my test again tonight to see if I get the same kind of battery burn. I ended up doing a hard factory reset/wipe, and reinstallation. To see if that properly cleared the android image. Will update the forum when I have more info.
