I think I have some of the power drain issues narrowed down. It seems to come from an improper hibernation sequence. Or that it does not go into a hibernate mode when it should (I have power setting to maximum power savings).
If I use the tablet, then just close the lid, it seems to really keep using a lot of juice. If I press the power button to shut off the screen, then close it right away, it seems to use a lot of juice.
It will be really warm to the touch, and go through battery quickly.
If I let it shut the screen off on its own, and wait a bit before closing the tablet/keyboard dock, it seems to hibernate normally, and wake from hibernation with the correct amount of battery.
Using both a new TF701 and my original TF101 is still going strong

You're absolutely right. When you push the power off button instead of naturally letting it hibernate, the battery drain occurs. I assume the issues with acrobat and Netflix are also hibernation related.

Battery drain after updating to Android 4.4.2
Hi, not sure if this issue has been discussed before. If so please accept apologies and I will look for it again. Briefly, I updated my TF701t a few months ago when Android KitKat 4.4.2 became available. Almost immediately I noted that the battery in both the tablet and the dock would drain quickly and deplete - sometimes in as little as an hour. This would happen even if the tablet was 'asleep' or closed. I contacted Asus and they informed me that it would require a hardware update and to send it in as an RMA. I did, and just got it back this week. No hardware update - they just downgraded it to Android 4.3 and told me to "avoid updating the new OS".
I'm not happy about this and I'm going to escalate it to their complaints department. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue, if they've had a different response from Asus, or if there are any other fixes out there that people are aware of? Should I wait for Lollipop and install that? The idea that I've bought a tablet that can't be updated is pretty disappointing.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Welcome to the forum
Yes, it has been discussed - at great length & in great detail in this stickied thread - hence the merging of your post here. I recommend a thorough read of the information in this thread - it goes into a fair bit of detail & covers the subject almost exhaustively.
All the best
