It will stop being Android and become firmly Google's version of Apple. And for most of the keen Android users that will mean it will become controlled, locked down, inflexible & not popular any more. Rooting will become almost a thing of the past & become as warranty voiding and detectable as Jailbreaking an Apple device. Even if it can be done.

No doubt about it, in my mind Google are tightening their grip over this original "open source" project - for very good commercial reasons. If you stay with the Google programme, you'll be as tied to Google as folks say Apple users are tied to Apple.

Just my opinion & prediction... (& with no value judgements either!)
Hell! I fervently hope you are wrong!!!! I thought my prediction was pessimistic, but yours is doomsday!!

Unfortunately that may be true. Member AshRealm tried to downgrade to 4.3 and it failed.
That's only one case I know of, but since he successfully re-flashed the 4.4.2 firmware just a little earlier and the procedure is the same, I suspect a downgrade is not possible (unless you unlock of course).

Went to bed with 50% left. Woke up to a drained battery. This is just unacceptable. I guess that I am going to have to void my warranty and put cyanogen on this thing. For the love of god, at least let me go back to 4.3...

UPDATE on my battery drain issue:

So I Unlocked, Rooted, and installed sbdag's modified 4.4.2 ROM. Charged to 100% then left it sleep for 9 hours and 20 minutes. It still drained to 32% in that time draining an average of 7.3% per hour.

GSam Battery Monitor shows battery usage:

    Screen 0.4%
    Wifi 3.6%
    Kernel (Android OS) 68.3%
    Android System 9.5 %
    GSam Battery Monitor 3.1%
    Google Services 3.0%
    Asus Launcher 2.2%
    System (ndroid.systemui) 2.0%
    Phone 1.5%
    Aquamail 1.0%

    Everything else under 1%.

Still just as bad as before. I'm thinking of just flashing Cyanogenmod 11 with KitKat 4.4.4 to see if that fixes it.

Give it a shot. Would be interesting to see if CM11 totally eliminates it. But CM still has some issues with dock functionality. It wasn't built with a dock in mind and pershoot, the dev, still doesn't have a working dock so he has a hard time debugging.

I again had just 1% battery drain over an eight hour period from last night.
    Same scenario:
    Asus stock rooted by sbdags
    Location services off
DS Battery Saver active and set to "aggressive".

    Now turning Location services on.

My feeling is that DS Battery Saver makes the difference, but we'll see.
My TF700 running CROMBi-KK (which is build on CM 11 base, btw) without DS and with Google location services "on" lost 20% battery over a 28 hour sleep period.
73% of that due to System (media server).
Not bad - but still almost 0.7%/hour whereas the TF701 with above scenario just lost 0.12%/hour.

What process did you use to root following the upgrade to KitKat?

I unlocked first using the Asus unlocker. Then I used the standard CWM procedure of using my PC to fastboot the CWM image and pushed SuperSU so when I booted I could remove the 2 files that cause the stock 4.4.2 image to be reloaded back.

Trying one more thing tonight before I switch to CM11 (I don't own a dock and don't intend to get one anyways)... It seemed as if the drain was minimal at first every time and I always place 2 widgets on my main desktop after install... so I've removed them from the desktop now. Considering widgets drain batteries pretty fast AND that neither of the widgets were even listed in the battery monitor... I think they may be the reason the Android OS is reading so high. Will know better tomorrow.

I don't know if anyone else has had this sort of problem before?
I have emailed Asus and still waiting a response.
I have EXACTLY the same problem with wifi.

Yesterday (with 4.3) I could connect to a 50m away public wifi and having a stable connection.

Now I even can't see it in the list. If I go nearer, the connection drops every 20-30 secs!!!

I think I'll have to try to downgrade... someone knows if it's possible?

AshRealms tried it yesterday and it failed. Another member contacted Asus support and they told him it's not possible. On the Asus support downloads site it also says that a downgrade is not supported. But they stated that for each firmware for the TF700 and TF701 since ICS days and on the TF700 you could easily downgrade/upgrade by flashing the firmware manually.
So we need confirmation for that.
    You willing to try it?
If you are, download the 4.3 firmware for your SKU, unzip he file once which will reveal another zip.
Copy that second zip to the root of your internal SD.
You should get a notification that an update is available. Confirm that you want to apply it and the recovery will flash the file. Or refuse to do it if they made it impossible....

Naturally you should backup all your important data before you this.... We don't know if this process wipes storage...
I would try it but I have a custom recovery installed which cannot flash the stock firmware.

Just had an idea: What region are you guys in?
I wonder if they again pushed a bad OTA... That happened last time to WW users when they pushed the 4.3 OTA. Taking the OTA left a lot of WW users in a bootloop.
