Android Marshmallow for the TF701 is here!!!!

Would you believe it? Transformer-super-dude timduru did it again over on XDA and brought some fresh life and a new rom to this tablet. Katshmallow is available, go grab it.
Haven't flashed it myself yet so I cannot report anything other than that I'm excited to do so.

He released it 11/9 and we are now on version 3... Typically Tim.... if something important won't work it does not take long for a fix to arrive.

And there I was getting tired of the 701. I knew I plugged it in for some reason the other day...

OK, I flashed v31 this afternoon. Too early to tell, but it seems like a good workable ROM, only had one minor glitch: at first boot it wouldn't read my microSD card. I shut it down and pulled it out, my desktop PC read it fine, booted back up and inserted it again and it worked fine. I'll never know if the reboot or the remove/insert fixed it. Anyway it all seems to work, sound, touch, even GPS (haven't tried bluetooth yet but the XDA thread has it working). Word of warning, though, now that I mention the XDA thread: there appears to be a performance issue, apparently the ROM is only utilizing one CPU core. So it might be wise to wait for the next version, which given @timduru's track record will probably be in the next day or three, with that fixed. Dock works, including charging, USB, upper function keys, touchpad (I hate using a touchpad, but when that's all you got, well...). Several people have reported installation issues but I had none. Of course I didn't try to take any shortcuts; the 701 likes a clean /data partition so I format it every time I install a ROM. @timduru also points out that it takes some time for this ROM to settle in and make itself at home, it has to do a media scan and some other stuff before it can devote full time to whatever you tell it to do. I'm not sure but I think this is common to all MM and Nougat ROMs, I keep reading similar things. I'm rambling now, and I must work tomorrow, so I'd best get some sleep!

Hmm, seems @timduru was busy posting the fix as I was posting the last post. AFAIK, it wasn't post-mortem. Downloading now...

Hello. This is my first post on TransformerForums. I'll apologize in advance if I'm asking for too much or if there is an existing post (or posts) that provides the information that I need and I just couldn't find it.

I have just obtained a barely used TF701T and keyboard dock and would like to install either KatKiss ROM MarshMallow 6.0.1 (seems everything works including camera) or KatKiss ROM Nougat 7.1 (camera still not working) before using it. So first question: Which would you recommend? MarshMallow 6.0.1 or Nougat 7.1? I know that Nougat 7.1 is the newer version but I'm worried that there are some other problems that arise when an app relies on the camera.

Now the big request: Can one of you experts please provide step-by-step instructions on how to install the ROM that you recommend? A link to a post or the posts that provide this would be fine.

I know that https://forum.xda-developers.com/tra...t/rom-t3540259 has "Install Instructions" but they are too vague for me. I don't know the specific steps to: "Backup everything !", "do a full wipe", "format /data", "format to ext3 then ext4 again", "Flash the rom", "Flash the SuperSU zip", "Flash gapps", "Wipe cache/dalvik".

Thank you so much for your help and guidance.

It's never been specifically tailored for the 701, but here is a good guide for the 700:
Beginners Guide to flashing a custom ROM on TF700T
Procedures are the same, file downloads are different. I use the Kang TWRP recovery and the KatKiss MM ROM on my 701, I see no advantage to updating since it works so well as is. At least I think it does, the better half now uses it as a daily driver, I'm pretty sure I'd have heard if it wasn't working well. I also see no reason to "update" to a ROM that won't run the camera, it's actually pretty good, and as the serious photographers say, the best camera is the one you have with you. Even if it's a tablet.
