    TF701T 4.4.2 Battery Drain

Battery consumption is awful. Cannot update firmware; don't know how to get the files into root.
If I can root the device, will battery consumption improve?

    Welcome to the forum

Rooting alone will not help the battery out. You didn't say how long it lasts. Have you determined what's causing the drain?

Have you tried a factory reset?

@leeshor makes a good point--just what is "awful"? My 701 will run around 4-5 hours of medium use, that's with just the tablet, no dock. What software do you have installed? How is the tablet being used? Do you have it docked?

If you want to update to a Lollipop Rom, you will need to unlock the bootloader and install TWRP. If you simply want to get the latest FW from Asus, download it from their website and follow this guide:

[GUIDE] How to flash Official Firmware downloaded from ASUS site

But I doubt it'll help your battery problem, unless you neglect to re-install some app that's eating it.

this is what I have done..

1: take tablet back to stock
2: Boot with no G-account, load up unlock, unlock it
    3: Download kingoRoot, root it..
4: add in Google account, add in [ROOT] Rashr - Flash Tool
5: flash CWM image.. boot in to it.. (make sure you have downloaded lastest nightly Rom)
    6: flash Rom..
    Profit..
    Quick and easy..
    thanks Pershoot for his work..
He is doing a great job of keeping this piece of equipment usable and providing CM for us to use.. (check another site for his work )

A little clarification please... Do you mean ClockWorkMod recovery? And by ROM, do you mean the latest CyanogenMod nightly? And BTW, an exception is made for links to XDA developers as they are our primary source for Transformer stuff; you can post links to them.

While I think that your method will improve the 701, it's not the route I would take. I would follow #s 1 and 2 as you did, then set up Fastboot (check the Master Help Guide in my sig) and fastboot flash TWRP. Don't forget to shoot a backup while you're still stock! Once you're there, you can try any ROM you like. I prefer Zombi-Pop on mine.

Is TWRP working well for you on these?..
I thought the consensus was that CWM v6.0.5.1 was more stable?
I could be wrong as not looked for a while.. I think this is missing from my post and I should edit it as he needs a recovery before flashing a ROM..otherwise he might get himself into trouble.
And for godsake ..don't go and do a data reset in fast boot on TWRP..(third option in fast boot)..
Or you will end up with a brick..
One of the problems with TWRP is it messes with that partition and so far on of these ASUS models TF range it's the kiss of death..

Edit..yes I have put in no: 5: CWM recovery .. pheew I thought I had forget an important step in the process.

While flashing with rashr seems a little scary it is not..and I found that after doing it a few times saves all computer connection time..

Correct, do not use the "wipe" icon when in the bootloader screen if you have ANY custom recovery installed. CWM usually (eventually) can recover from this mistake. There is now a procedure for repairing a Transformer with TWRP after this, but AFAIK it hasn't been tested on the 701. I hope to never need to...

Yes, TWRP works fine on the TF701; the stability issues are due to problems with the filesystem on /data, where TWRP stores its preferences. A complete format of the /data partition fixes it. And BTW TWRP does a full "secure" erase of the /data partition, which is one thing CWM cannot do. It has other geek goodies also, a built-in terminal, etc., that makes me prefer it. And of course the touch interface.

Interesting! Where did you get that bit about the TWRP stability issues because of file system on data? I went back to CWM 'cause I can deal with a lot on instability but I like my recovery rock solid.

Well, partly from you, partly from @sdbags, and partly from how mine acted--until it got the full treatment on /data, after which I haven't had a single glitch. IIRC I had to do it twice, not because of TWRP but because of changing ROMs, so I can't really say if it was necessary for TWRP or not. But I've had no freezes, no errors, no problems at all since. To be honest I don't use the tablet that much. BTW which version of CWM do you recommend for it?
