How did you try to flash the stock FW? In TWRP? AFAIK that has never worked on the TF701 - at least in CWM which was the only choice until two days ago. You need to flash the stock recovery from Droidbasement and use that for a stock firmware flash. But if you successfully flashed the bootloader and a recovery it "should" not be necessary to flash stock....
On the other hand - on the HTC M8 if you really borked the FW and especially the radio portion (which we don't have) it is necessary to flash stock recovery (and stock rom) and perform a factory reset to restore the radios. On that device the stock recovery does stuff custom recoveries cannot do... No idea if this has any bearing on this tablet... certainly never heard that....
But I'm glad you got out of the deep part of the hole you dug yourself into...
BTW, I second the idea of username change. LOL

Love it! A motto to live by
Did all the filesystem work in TWRP. I don't feel that comfortable working in shell, TWRP has this nice GUI. Yes, I tried to flash the stock FW in TWRP. Looks like it won't do it either. Didn't realize I could get it from Droidbasement.

But the news is good. The road was still pretty rocky, but apparently my Jeep was up to it. I failed twice to download a flashable ROM, each time of course after 800 or 900 MB, but the third time was a charm and MD5s matched. I had given up and finally gone to bed while the download downloaded, so I got up early to try to flash it. Good thing I did, but I'm one tired puppy today. Did I mention my Internet sucks? 3-4 hours for each download attempt. Anyway flashed CROMi-X7.1b4 first thing this morning, or tried to: Aroma stuck at 100% flash. Of course a reboot attempt got me yet another "unrecoverable bootloader error". Re-read the XDA page, first thing listed under "known issues": sometimes Aroma installer sticks or unexpectedly exits, just flash again and it will work. Well, OK, but there are not enough "agains" in that warning. This time it took four shots to hit the mark, but I finally saw the bootsplash followed by the setup wizard. Reminds me of the time I tried to run CROMi-x in Dalvik runtime on my 300! That took a whole weekend to unbollix also. I hope I like the 701 as well as I do the 300. So right now I'm going to go play with it and find out.

    Another win for our team!

Well, you break it good, I have to say that.

But then you fixed it too... good job Kev!!

I broke my Chromebook as well - thought I didn't need to backup the OS first 'cos I could download it - but my Ubuntu partition was too big for the Chrome partition to download the file

So I too had to go cap in hand to a friend and ask to download it using his PC...

I've broken it again since then - but I fixed it myself that time... To be honest, ChromeOS is proving just superb as a Linux distro all of its own...

    Cheers

See, you all need to pitch in, send me another brand-new tablet that I can screw up, so we can get even more! Method to the madness!

FWIW I'm enjoying this CROMi-X7 beta. Of course @sdbags' idea of a beta is anyone else's polished final release. I prefer a minimal ROM, so I installed basically none of the options offered, and I'm slowly adding apps. I should have opted for the Gallery app, but I assumed it was an extra one. But I found one called Gallery Pro that has a stock feel to it and no ads. But what a contrast to the stock ROM--two pages of bloatware! Asus put a trial version of a newspaper subscription handler installed as a system app! IMHO any trial version of anything should be easily uninstalled. I do not want the apps I use buried in a haystack of what comes out of the other end of the horse after the hay goes in the front!
