The new Towelroot exploit has been reported working with a stock locked TF701 on XDA:

Towelroot works without unlocking bootloader! - xda-developers

Edit 7/7/14: I consider it confirmed that only Towelroot v1 works on the TF701. See post # 6 for download link.

Edit 7/25/14: Towelroot v1 works only if you are still on JB 4.3. If you have taken the 4.4.2 OTA update you're out of luck. There's no known root-only method for this firmware at this time.

Does this mean someone could try exposed framework on the tablet then?

Yep - you can now root the TF701 without unlocking the bootloader (which would void your warranty) and install Xposed, uninstall bloatware in Titanium Backup etc.
But back up everything you uninstall first and keep those backups in a safe place. When the next OTA update rolls out it will most likely not install unless you have all the original apps in place!

It aso remains to be seen if you can preserve root across OTA updates. We won't find out until it's here.

If you modify your system at root level, you should not rush to accept that latest firmware update anymore. You could loose root and may have to wait months for the next exploit....

It works on my stock 4.3 ASUS Transformer Pad TF701T.

    Thanks.

    Titanium Back works flawless.

Xposed Framework installaed with no problem and the modules are working apparetly with no issues.

    Will report if having problems.

How did you install it? I tried installing the tr.apk file on my TF701 but it came up with "App not installed". Is there something you have to do before running the .apk file on the TF701?

I have enabled third party apps in the setup.

Apparently there are different versions and not each one is working on the TF701.
Currently v3 is on the Towelroot website but it does not seem to work on this tablet.
Users reported successfully rooting with v1.
For those of you trying to find them, here are the links for a direct download of v1 and v2.

Is it best to update both the dock and tablet before attempting to use towelroot?

Updating the dock firmware should have no effect on root either way.
Towelroot was developed for the Galaxy S5. It just happens to work on many Android devices with a kernel prior to June 3.
This is uncharted territory. I do not know of anyone who has tried to root the 4.2 firmware with it. And I also don't know if you can preserve root through the OTA update....
But it's just an app - it either works or it doesn't.

So my advice would be: run Towelroot (all 3 versions if need be) on your current firmware. If it works, use OTA Rootkeeper to backup your root before you update.
Then update to 4.3 and try to restore root with OTA Rootkeeper. If that does not work, run Towelroot on the new firmware.

And PLEASE - post here what worked and what did not! As I said: Very little is known about how and if Towelroot (and which version) works on this tablet on what firmware.

Hi Droid, I'm running android 4.3 and it appears to have worked (towelroot 1). It rebooted anyway. Gonna try exposed framework now
