    Question TF701T powering an external USB3.0 hard disk

    Hello there,

    The USB port of the TF701T tablet is it capable of powering an external USB3.0 hard disk 1To 2.5p ?

    There isn't a simple answer. In short, yes, but it depends on the power requirements of the drive. In general if you get one that has an optional power supply that should ensure that it works. You may or may not need the power supply. Some have found that they need to plug the tablet's power in to get some hard disks to work.

    The answer is "it depends on the external drive".

    If it requires more current than the USB can provide, it won't work
    Sometimes an external drive will work if the TF is connected to a/c but not if it is only running from battery.
    Sometimes it will work if you run it from a powered USB hub
    Sometimes it will only work if it is a powered external drive.

    I've got my TF701 now and i see only one of the two USB stick if i branch them via a Hub. Is this normal ?

    Normal? I'd say so, yes. The truth is, with Android & this sort of thing - particularly from 4.4 KitKat onwards accessing external memory can be a little "hit & miss". Google are tying Android down more & more & restricting things trying to push folks towards their cloud storage...

    So - if the native hardware works as it should with just one external connected, then it is not a hardware fault. You might then have a software restriction or a less than friendly adapter.
