    [ SOLVED ] Installing CROMBi-kk - A bit confused

I'm running with Cromi-x at the moment & want to give CROMBi-kk a try.

Getting a bit confused with the install instructions.

Firstly how do you see the version of TWRP? Can't see it anywhere.

Secondly what is it I have to do after downloading CROMBi-kk? Open TWRP & install from there?

Looking a bit further at the install instructions it looks like I need to download 'ASUS APPS' as well.

Are you able to choose the apps you want loaded or does it install all of them?

I'm not going to worry about the ROM2SD/DATA2SD side of things.

CROMBi--KK is based on CM11, so yu will have to do a clean install meaning you have to do a factory wipe in TWRP prior to installing the rom.
That's the default action under the Wipe menu.
While you are there look at the TWRP banner. It'll state the version you have installed. For any KK rom you will need TWRP 2.7.1.+ and you should be on the 10.6.1.14.8 or .10 bootloader.
Once that is done, just choose Install in TWRP and navigate to the CROMBi-KK zip.
You do not have to install the Asus apps. That's optional. kansasboy ported those apps from the Asus framework to CM for those people who were missing some Asus stock apps in CROMBi-KK. If you flash the zip the Aroma installer will start and you can select which ones to install.
    Hope this helps.

Anytime. Don't forget to make a nandroid of your current installation. Just in case you don't like CROMBI-KK 😀

Looks like they changed the menu in TWRP. I still can't find what version it is. I presume I have the latest as the play store only gives two options, 'uninstall' & 'open'.

So do I need to go into 'install'? From there tick 'wipe data', wipe cache', wipe dalvik'? Then hit 'flash now'?

I think you are confusing something. I think you are talking about TWRP Manager from the Play Store which is an app - not a recovery!
It is an app to flash a recovery (among other things) and it calls whatever recovery is installed to perform the wipes, installs etc.
I have serious misgivings about apps like these (Flashify is another one) because they don't check compatability before they flash whatever you are asking them to flash. I read about one case where Flashify tried to flash the recovery to the wrong partition on the HTC M8!! That's seriously not good!
These apps make it far too easy IMO to mess with parts of the system that you should only mess with if you did your homework!

The proper way to flash a custom rom is in recovery and you HAVE to know which recovery you have installed before you proceed.
    Power down the tablet.
Press Power and Volume Down until you see a screen with 3 icons.
Also read the tiny script, write it down and post your bootloader version. Should be 10.6.1.14.x
The first one is RCK, the recovery, and it should be flashing.
Press Volume Up to boot the recovery.
If you have TWRP installed you will see a blue splash screen and the version will be at the top of the screen
If you get a dead Android on his back, you do not have a custom recovery installed at all!

Confused was not the word. Good grief I was doing it all back to front.

OK. The bootloader is OK. How do you go about updating TWRP? I'm on 2.6.1.0.

Call me old fashioned, but I think it's very important to have a working adb/fastboot connection between tablet and PC if you flash custom software.
So my answer would be: You flash it in fastboot.
Read the section on installing a custom recovery here:
Beginners Guide to flashing a custom ROM on TF700T

If you want to cheat you could PM this guy on XDA. He made a flashable zip with TWRP 2.7.1.1 which you can flash in your current recovery:

Best way to do it is to go to droidbounds guide and use fastboot to flash his recommended TWRP file. I'm assuming that you haven't done it this way because you have the TWRP manager app.

The file that droidbound has linked will be 100% compatible with both KitKat and jelly bean Roms.
