New TF700 units will not charge. Please help!

I have four new TF700 units which were purchased two years ago, still in unopened boxes.

I am now finally looking to deploy them for their intended use, and so opened the first one to charge.

Using the included AC adapter, when I plugged in the cable, the screen briefly flashed the battery graphic with a single red bar.

I left it overnight, and came back to find that it would not turn on. The LED next to the power button is not lit. Plugging in the AC adapter into another wall outlet results in two blinks of the orange LED, then dark. Using a different brand (cell phone) AC adapter resulted in the same two flashes. Plugging into a computer USB port results in the same two flashes.

I have tried holding the power button down for 30+ seconds, both while plugged in and unplugged. No response.

I have repeated the above with all four units. Three units have the silver backplate, with Android 4.0 on the sticker to the right side. One unit has the dark gray backplate, with Android 4.1 on the sticker.

    Please help?

    Thank you.

    Welcome

If you had searched first you would have found out about trickle charging as it sounds to me that your batteries are so flat they cannot accept a charge. Follow the Master Help Guide link in my signature and look for the battery / charging guide thread and read the advice there. “[FAQ] The definitive thread to battery related matters on the Asus range of tablets“

    Thank you for your response.

Yes, I did read through the available information on this board, prior to posting the new thread for help.

I was about 5 hours into trickle charging, without response from any of the four units, when I posted the thread for help.

I was hoping that someone might have any additional insight, before I conclude that these will need battery replacement, and that battery replacement is probably more expensive than the current value of these units.

Well, give it about 50 hours before giving up. A standard 5V cell 'phone charger will not work, make sure your chargers are Asus branded and rated 15V. Battery replacement is not prohibitive if you do it yourself, but give the tricle charge a fair chance first, it costs almost nothing. Usually a USB port on a PC is used, give it a day or two, then plug in the Asus charger.

    Kevin,

    Thank you for your response.

Well, it's been a total of at least 40 hrs trickle-charging from an HP workstation - not continuous, but over several days, since I have the machine on about 12hrs a day.

No response whatsoever from these units. It's strange, that all four units behave identically...

...another strange thing among all four units: the screen briefly flashed the battery graphic with a single red bar at the bottom of the empty battery - only on the first time out of the box plugging into the AC adapter from the same box. Never again thereafter...
