touchscreen ghost touches and unuseable area - tf700t
Hi all
I have a weird problem and I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I've tried to search for this but haven't come across something similar yet.
The touch screen of my TF700T will work fine for a few minutes and then it will act in 2 ways. The first being as if I am touching another part of the screen (sometimes consistently, other times with seconds between the supposed touch). It is always the same spot. If I use the development tool to map touches, I can see a point where the tablet registers a touch (without me anywhere near). The second way is that in line with where that touch appears, there will be a vertical line (about an inch – 2.5cm) where it won’t register any of my touches. So, any virtual keyboard keys within that inch line will not register. If I draw a line across the screen, it will look like I took the eraser and swiped down through that line.
Now, I would generally say that this is a hardware issue but the fact that the tablet works perfectly for a few minutes before makes me wonder. And if I reboot, all good for a while again (sometimes also good if I sleep it and wake it up again).
Another weird coincidence is that this perfectly coincided with me installing a new ROM (Zombipop RC2) but this also happens when in recovery mode (TWRP) so I would say it shouldn’t be the ROM. Can a ROM write stuff that will influence recovery? Just such a weird coincidence.
I’m so upset. I’ve been battling with this tablet for years. Hate how slow it is. Now, I’ve found the first ROM that actually makes it useable and it breaks
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Alan

Chances are that you have a hardware fault. But first I'd try reinstalling the stock firmware, just to to eliminate the possibility of any software fault. When that doesn't do it, open the tablet and re-seat all the ribbon cables. If that won't do it either, look for a new digitizer or a new tablet. Procedures for all these things are linked in the Master Help Guide.

It does seem hardware. I just really wondered at the coincedence with a new ROM. I will follow your advice and see.
Thanks for the prompt response and great forum.

Hi AlanB1976
Don't know if you have seen my recent post on this forum, but it might possibly help.
