    Angry TF700 problems (slowed down)

I have been having problems with my TF700. The problem is that its slow. I don't use it very much anymore because of its speed. The only apps that have on it is Olive Tree Bible app. When I use the app to find book, chapter and then verse. In order to go to the verse it will take close to 15 seconds before I have it on the screen. Like I said I don't use it much anymore. But I haven't had that problem with it before. It is very frustrating. If anybody has any ideas I would like to hear from you.

    Thanks in advance

    Chuck

If you browse this forum you will find you're not alone. The TF700 is known for slowing down terribly over time.

Probably the easiest thing to do is a cold-boot. With the tab powered off (not sleeping, OFF), hold the volume-down and power keys until you see the bootloader screen with 3 or 4 icons, one of them flashing. Release both keys, then press vol- so the little green Android icon is flashing, then the vol+. The screen text will say cold-booting and the tab will boot into its normal system. This may or may not give you a noticeable improvement.

The next is a factory reset. BACK UP EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU DO THIS! You will lose everything you have ever put on the tablet. Documents, pictures, apps, accounts, passwords, all of it. If you are not in the habit of backing stuff up, this is a good opportunity to practice. It's also a good opportunity to clean the crap out; after you put back only the stuff you want, you'll find a lot more room on the machine. And you will have fresh installations of all your apps, and up-to-date ones if you replace them from Play Store or Amazon Appstore.

There are many more steps possible, and they get both more effective and more risky from here, and more technical. Try these first, they are basic maintenance items that you should do once a year or so anyway. If you aren't happy with the results we can talk about rooting and some of the tuning that enables, and ultimately custom ROMs. Baby steps first...

Edit: seems I forgot a step-by for the factory reset. First make sure you do not have a custom recovery installed (I'm guessing you don't). Use the boot-to-bootloader option above, and choose the RCK icon. The tab should boot to a dead Droid with an exclamation point; that's the stock recovery reporting that it has nothing to do. If you get Team Win or ClockworkMod recovery coming up, do a factory wipe FROM RECOVERY. Never use the OEM method with a custom recovery installed. But if, as I suspect, you still have stock recovery and the dead Droid, boot back into system, go to Settings>Backup & Reset>Factory data reset. Again, you will lose everything you ever put onto the tablet!

Well, first off I would like to say thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. Unfortunately the cold boot didn't help at all. Later in the week I will do a factory reset and then I am going to get rid of it. It has to be the worse tablet that I have ever bought and I have had a few. Again thanks for the help. One of the things that I have always liked about this forum is the way that people are willing to take their time to help others with their tablet problems.

That's why we're here. It's your decision, of course, but for me it's worth it to invest the time to get the 700 ticking smoothly. Mine now has a custom ROM on it, and while this particular one (CROMi-X) is not the latest greatest fastest, it is probably the most trouble-free, and it is another world from what you described. Remember how the tablet ran when it was brand-new? About 10% faster than that. So I encourage you to at least read @Droidbound's guide:

Beginners Guide to flashing a custom ROM on TF700T

BTW, if you do dump the tab, doing a factory reset is the thing to do anyway, as it will wipe any personal info you might have put on it.
