    Question Should I return it??

    Hi TF Team
I want to keep and love my new TF700 but right out of the box it just has not been a happy tablet. Reboots at whim. Several android apps that work with other android machines won't work with it. They just refuse to open after installing. Today the keyboard just decided not to show up for work... so in the middle of trying to coax the keyboard to come out of hiding it shut down and is now unresponsive. Now beyond getting mental health therapy for a clearly depressed uncommunicative tablet that I love when it works, is there anything I can do beyond return it to Amazon.
I ask in the context of someone who knows nothing about firmware, bootloaders, ROMs, bricking, rooting etc. Only thing I tried so far is to take it into a shop where they did a factory reset. Some apps now work but everything else is the same. What's possible??

If a factory reset did not remedy the situation, the only thing you can do yourself is re-flashing the ASUS firmware.
BUT... if a machine out of the box is so buggy, I would just return it. It could be hardware related and why run the risk that you received a lemon?
Amazon's return process is easy and fast. I would give it another shot with another unit.

And actually - check the price difference to the TF701. If you can get the 701 for a comparable price: Get that!
    It's a much better tablet!

Thanks Droidbound. Not a bad idea to go for the 701, that was my first preference but 701 was a good deal more than the 700 I got. I did stock up pretty fast with accessories for the Asus and would prefer to try again with another but I can't help but read all the issues here and wonder. I suppose all tablets have forums that cater to problems like these so I shouldn't overly blame Asus but I am a bit shy on re-purchasing. When it works though I do quite like the fellow.

Forums will usually attract those people with problematic devices and so it may seem as though there are a lot 700's with problems. Probably no more than any other tablet out there. Yeah I would send that one back to Amazon if flashing the FW doesn't fix it's issues.

Oh and just FYI: Users of ES File Explorer, there was an update yesterday that seems to have messed this app up. I'm sure it'll get fixed, but ES is having force close issues right now. Just sayin' in case it might be making you think your tablet has problems. Seems fine on my S4 but the 700 and a UT2 Ugoos (RK3188 chip) I have do not like it.

    Just so ya know.....

i flhthemi I'd like to try the "flashing the firmware" before resending as you suggested. I could just take it to the shop and give those instructions but before doing so I'd love to have an idea what "flashing" it means. Thanks much.

These devices have flash memory. So they call installing system software "flashing" it. It's the same as re-installing the OS on a computer.
You don't have to take it anywhere. It's not that difficult. Check out this thread:
