Welcome to the Forum. Long press should work the same way, on ICS.

You can only drag & drop, i.e drag a game over a game & it creates a folder of sorts...

The difficulty I am experiencing is to join two app shortcuts to form a folder on the Homepage. Though I have succeeded on two occasions, most of the time when trying to drag one shortcut over another, I am pushing the first around the screen.
Sometimes after dozens of tries, a folder finally forms, and subsequent additions to the folder work OK.
What am I missing in the technique to create the first folder?
Thanks!

You should just have to drag one app directly on top of the other and let go to make a folder.

I'm not sure if you're "missing" anything Steve, maybe just takes a little practice?
For instance, I find it easier to 'back in'. ie. long press an icon you want to move,
push it upwards on the screen & swing to the icon/folder where you want to drop it...
and slowly 'back in' to that icon...you'll see a wee blue circle encase the folder/icon
you've backed on top of...then release.
The more you do it the easier it becomes...and if you bung it up, no worries--the app drawer is just a poke away.

Maybe I just need to practice more...but just to be sure, would you explain to this Android newbie, what's meant by long press. I've seen the term mentioned elsewhere, so it must be an Android specific technique.
Thanks!

Not to be confused with a Full Court Press....Long Press is fancy for "press and hold".
You hear 'tapping' alot with tabelts as well, tap the icon to open it up for example.
Well say I want to merge 2 browser icons on my home screen into one folder?
Ok, press and hold icon one--which is a long press--it will flash blue & bulge a bit, telling you it's selected
and ready to roll or drag. Press and hold, then drag up and ontop of browser icon #2...a wee blue circle
will appear around the bottom icon....that lets you know when you release you're going to have a folder.
Long Press----> just means press and hold.

Got it, and thanks for the explanation. After several tries, I 've succeeded in creating a few more folders.
All in all the UI of the tablet has been pretty responsive, but I have to admit this particular operation does require a bit of effort. Probably not used much by non techie operators
