Question Sell and get TF701 or root and custom ROM

I know everyone will have a different opinion. I bought my Asus TF700 for it's reported screen resolution and it is an Asus. However, haven't been happy with it's performance. So, I want to get a new 10.1 tablet to go with my Nexus 7 2013. So my question is: sell the TF700 and go for the TF701 or keep it and root it with a custom 4.3 (and hopefull 4.4)ROM. Opinions?

I know that I have the dinosaur TF101 running Android 4.3 (custom ROM) and it FLIES compared to stock.

I would lean towards unlocking and rooting rather than buying a new tablet, but heck, that is just me.

Yeah, I like the form factor (thinness) and screen resolution, so I hate to get rid of it. Only thing that would change my mind if the Nexus 10 2013 is an Asus.

No external storage is a deal breaker for me.
I am running CROMi-X 5.0.4 on the TF700 and it is a joy to use! I can understand people being uneasy about loosing warranty - but once that is up: Why on earth would you put up with the laggy stock rom for this beautiful hardware?

I'm not sure warranty really matters, I bought it off eBay as a like new. What version of Android is CROMi-X?

I would root first. If you are not happy with the performance, you can always return to stock sell it and get a new Tab.

Ok, so I have decided to root and unlock. But I have never done this with a tablet and the last device I did this with was the Nexus S 4G, so I am very rusty when it comes to doing this. I do have a few more questions:

    1. CWM vs TWRP? and if CWM, does it have the touch recovery ?
    2. Best HowTo to unlock and root this device?
    3. CyanogenMod vs CROMi-X
    4. Odex vs Deodex?
    5. Is there a stable 4.3 ROM out there?

    Thanks...

I will answer the first 2 for you.

1 - TWRP, TWRP, TWRP, TWRP, TWRP! Did I mention TWRP?
2 - Use the Asus unlock tool (must be unrooted and such) then use fastboot to install TWRP. Flash your custom ROM, or the SuperUser/SuperSU.zip if you just want stock root. Be sure to get the proper JB or ICS version of TWRP. I would assume that since you are still stock that you are on JB so you should use the TWRP for JB bootloaders.

Others will have to answer the rest, however for 3, it is a matter of your choice. I would recommend both. Also, check out the Development Forum for the TF700T at XDA for the most up to date available ROMs.

Thanks. I recall seeing not to use CWM, use TWRP. However, lot of sites are using CWM as part of their HowTo. I don't want to brick this. Just want it to be faster and use the hardware for which it was designed. I have heard that CROMi-X is based more on the Asus stock software, as opposed to CyanogenMod.

Oh, and what is the correct order?: root, unlock, custom recovery? or unlock, root, custom recovery?
