What happens in a couple of years when the battery dies?

The Lithium batteries used in these tablets have a finite life span. Most likely for many people that will be after 2 to 3 years of use. Then what? Is the battery user replaceable like most cell phone batteries or do we need to send it back to Asus for battery replacement? If we send it in what is the estimated repair costs? I am guessing (based on Li battery prices for other devices) the cost of the battery alone will be about $50. I know - some people will say that in 3 years you will want a new tablet anyway because of upgrades but what if we are happy with what we have and just want to replace the battery?

    Thoughts anyone?

I would be looking for a youtube video about how to open your TF700. Open it and get the battery number and order one off the internet someplace. At that point in time you have nothing to loose and everything to gain.

I'll be trading in my TF101 before the battery dies, that's for sure. By that time the newer models will be stable and in my opinion that's a good time to upgrade.

I feel the same as you do to replace Battery,I love my Prime, everything works great! but if you replace the battery then what if some thing else goes wrong, a crack screen or what ever else? then it may be cheaper to get the latest tablet down the road?
I had my 3rd generation iPod over 3 years or more, battery I would say is about 75% still good,. Just depends how we use it and how we treat the battery on charging our devices. I always put my WiFi airplane mode ON, on all my devices, Batteries last a heck of a longer time for me. That's my 2 cents.

Depends on how old it is, what your historical usage pattern is, what you were doing with the device, the last time you did a cold boot, the last time you ran the battery down to 10% or less & then did a full recharge...

We'd need more information to help you more...

Just to let you know that I took the bit between my teeth and successfully changed out my TF101 battery and intend to do the same with my TF700 battery (different battery replacement procedure though) when it needs to be replaced, it is running Katkiss nougat ROM and is still fine for my purposes.
