There are 2 resets available when doing VOL DOWN and POWER
Factory Reset/Wipe Data (Left icon) - Wipes all of your data and resets the device to out of the box condition BUT it leaves all firmware updates installed. All apps will be uninstalled unless included with the ROM, all personal files in the /sdcard/ folder will also be removed.
Hard Reset/Cold Boot/Whatever else you want to call it (Right Icon) - Clears the caches and some other cobwebs to allow some glitches to be cleared. DOES NOT WIPE ANY USER DATA OR APPS.

Ok, some clarification...
Hard Reset & Cold Boot = The Same Thing----and won't erase your data.
People use either name Peg, but they are exactly the same thing.
Hold Power Button and Volume Down Button at same time.
*You can do this anytime you feel your machine is acting slow or misbehaving, I usually do one once a week.
**As Frederuco mentioned, there are two options available thru this method, which may be where you're getting confused.
Factory Reset
This is the one you need to back up your data before performing...it will erase all your stuff.
You won't have to do this near as often. It's more of a "uh oh, I've found the creek, who's got my paddle???"
*It is advised to do it when there is a change of Operating System, in this case, moving from ICS to Jelly Bean.
Here is the link. For this update to Jelly Bean, you need to do the part starting: Updates that include a change of OS.
*Edit: ninja'd by the King.

I think, for all new users, the best course of action is to bookmark The Master Help Guide
Then read through that which it contains, especially the opening section.
There are also some Android Guides linked from it & from my signature.

Now i have information on hard bood vs factory reset too ... learning a lot here as a new user.
Ok now from Frederuco initial post to this forum i have not got to try all of the functions yet, but as of now i did try some launchers. Well personally i did not have any problems with the stock launcher but i still downloaded apex since i may not know and may miss out on features that the other launchers may provide that the stock one does not.
-When using Apex launcher, my live wallpaper of the shield moves from left to right when i swipe across the the 5 home screens but while using the stock launcher the shield does not move. Are there settings? I know live wallpapers come with setting but this one in particular does not have settings.
-Secondly, what advantage does apex has over the stock launcher? I see i can add apps and widgets to the home screen but so does the stock browser.
-I use google music which is excillent now that i have an android tablet. But there are some songs which i have not saved on the cloud but i copied them to my sd card. But now when i open google music it shows all my songs the once synced to google music and the one which are not as well as the one which are in my sd card. Is there a way to keep the libraries seperate?
-Any app for sound boster? since transformer series tablets come only with one speaker, any way to increase the sound or an app for equilizer?
Something from my side:
AIRDROID is an excillent app to mirror your screen on your laptop browser(no installation on your laptop) use it on the browser. Help you with moving files to your tablet without wire. For using it on your phone you can even text via your phone while typing it on your browser without touching your phone. I like how it even shows memory used on my device. And much more features.

Thanks a lot, "The Master Help Guide" is going to be of great help

Craigslistmenow--I've only used the stock launcher so I'm useless on the rest of your post, but if you want a nice(r) audio program--and one that gives you a nice equalizer/poweramp settings + a whole lot more jetAudio has both free & paid versions. I find it a little nicer than the stock player, and it has some nice fade in/out's for playlists etc...a little more features--alot of this is available in the free version. Give it a go, it may be what you're looking for.
