Can Asus Infinity TF700 transfer file to USB external hard drive from CF or SD card

    Hi,

I am new here and I just order ASUS Infinity TF700 + ASUS USB Kit for ASUS Eee Pad Transformer from B&H.

My main use is email, web browsing, e-reading, and light games. another use is to transfer photo and video file from memory card to external hard drive.

basically, i travel alot, when traveling, i take a lot of picture and movie and all the time it fill up all my memory card while traveling. so I am thinking to use my new asus TF700 to off load the movie and pictures from the memory card to the portable usb hard drive. the question is: is it possible to do so? (if it is, i don't have to carry my laptop). if it is possible to do so, any additional software or hardware I should purchase to make it happen.

    thanks

    Joseph

Actually I don't think you necessarily can... It seems to me that the tf700 doesn't provide power to an external HD. I bought an adapter to connect an external HD directly to the TF700, the HD needs power from the usb which it didn't get from the tf700, therefor it didn't work. The adapter I used converted the type A usb plug of the power charger cord to a type B to connect to the HD.

theres two ways you can do this.

1 - if you have the dock, you can plug in your portable hd to the dock and transfer that way.

2 - if you dont have the dock, you can purchase this
    Amazon.com: ASUS USB Kit for Eee Pad Transformer TF101, TF101G, TF201 & TF300 Tablets: Computers & Accessories
you might need to confirm that it works with the tf700, but if the dock from the tf200 works with the infinity, i see no reason to think it wont work.
With this, you can then plug in your portable HD and start transferring. Just for the records. I have a 500gb and 640gb USB 3.0 portable HD's, and both work fine with when it comes to transferring. You should have no problems at all.

Portable hard drives work fine. They dont require to be plugged into a socket.

You cannot attach a hard drive without the dock as you need the dock's USB port to connect the drive.

Read post # 5 -- There is a USB adapter from ASUS which should work as per comments... plugs into the bottom charging port of the tablet.

One of the Amazon reviewers states it works on the TF700.
