Can someone PLEASE help me with this?

This is the greatest Android tablet out now, I know. I will definitely buy it tomorrow morning from Office Depot. Except for one thing.

I've been really worried from all of these stories about the dock cracking the screen. How bad IS this problem? I know it has appeared on the TF201 and the TF300, but I don't know if it is a minor problem or not. What percentage of the tablet owners actually happen to have this issue?

Thanks to all who answer this, I really appreciate this.

I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with the issue I'm referring to.
There's a big thread on xda about the dock putting strain on the screen and eventually cracking it. It's a manufacturing problem, not user error.
What I'm asking is if this problem is very common or if it's just a few people.
Sorry, should've made this more clear.

Just buy it. Because apparently the Infinity is the single greatest invention in the history of mankind.

On a more serious note, as long as you're careful putting the tablet in the dock, you should be fine. And if you're going to be using the dock all the time, you should really consider getting a laptop instead...

I know it is. But will it break? That is the question.

It's not designed to break. Buy it you'll love it.

That's an open question. Of course it will break if you don't handle it properly. Anything will break under certain conditions. If you don't pick your tablet up by the top of the tablet when it's in the dock you'll probably be just fine.

I thought this was a prime issue.

It seems with the prime their goal was to be as thin as possible...combined with pressure from the dock, i suspect the flex caused the cracks.

I haven't heard of the tf101 having issues, and dont suspect the tf300 would (as it seems more sturdy and thicker).

Hopefully the infinity is stronger and better made.

I would suggest you hold off buying the Infinity until just before it goes end of support - by that time you'll know whether or not there is a problem with the dock cracking the screen or not.

Of course, by then the rest of us might be two or three versions of tablet ahead of you, but at least you'll have the satisfaction of knowing whether or not the dock is likely to crack the screen.

Sometimes you just have to pay your money and take your chances, especially with technology that changes as rapidly as tablets do.

Try Accidental Drop & Spill insurance.......
I believe this type of insurance covers unexplained cracked screen damage, where Asus apparently does not.
Something like $250.00 to repair from Asus (for the tf300t---I imagine the GG2 would be more expensive), vs $100.00+ for extended plus acc.d&s multi year insurance.

And I also remember reading about a few cracked screens in the tf300t threads.
I, though, have not read that many reports of cracked screens in total, that seem to stem from the dock hinge.
    So .......?
    Do what feels best...........

Some of the replies to the original poster here beggar belief

    FACTS
    * There are screen cracking issues on the tf300
    * There were considerably fewer on the tf201
    * AFAIK there were none to speak of on the tf101
    * These are caused by the dock/tablet connection (the main reason for buying any of the transformer range)
    * This is a design & manufacturing issue - clearly the manufacturing quality of Asus tablets is getting poorer

So, the choice Non_Sequitur, is this...
    * Do you want the form factor of a dockable tablet? If you do, then you will have to roll the dice & hope you get a good one.
    * If you aren't that bothered, then consider other manufacturers (with better quality control & warranties)

Whatever choice you make, purchase from a good retailer with good after sales support and a generous returns policy to put your mind at rest.

PLEASE Search for existing threads before posting a new one. Thanks.
