Roehsoft RAM Expander (SWAP) - does it work?

I read about Roehsoft's RAM Expander (SWAP) an app for "rooted" android devices that expands RAM by using your SD card. I'd like to hear from anyone who's tried it. Does it work on a TF700T? Is it worth the cost?

Well, you can't get more RAM. RAM is a physical thing. But you can get more Virtual Memory by adding a swap area or swap file. My TF700T has 1GB and no swap enabled.
But I don't see why you would need to buy that Roehsoft product to enable swapping. The device is running a Linux kernel after all, and with all the facilities needed for using swap space, as far as I can tell. You would need a rooted device, and you would have to fiddle a bit with the system. Probably not too difficult, but the truth is - I don't want to even try it, because a micro SD card is terribly slow on a TF700, much slower than the already very slow eMMC. I can't imagine it would be worth the hassle. The device has a problem with slow eMMC, which results in the various slowdowns and hickups, and that's a problem that could be improved by adding a lot more RAM. But it will not help to simulate that by using microSD swap space, it can only make the problem worse.

Somebody is looking to make a lot of money for nothing. Ten bucks for a set of simple BASH scripts? That will not improve the performance of the machine one bit? Obviously I'm in the wrong business. Save your money and look for custom ROMs that actually make a difference in how the tablet runs, I recommend KatKiss with the /data partition formatted to f2fs.

I rooted the tablet ages ago. Read the instructions to install a ROM a couple of times but never got started as it sounded like several hours with the usual glitches (been around that track many many times). I'd be happier to pay someone to do it (I live near Ottawa, Ontario) if it would speed it up to be even usable.

Yes, several hours the first time. No guarantees but if you read the directions carefully (and follow them) the glitches have been pretty thoroughly worked out. You might PM @droidbound, I don't know if he's interested or not but he'd know who might be. I recommend you learn how yourself, and set up fastboot and such, sort of like wearing a seat belt in your car. Or perhaps a circus performer's safety net might be a better analogy? No special skills involved though, and no personal danger, only the chance of turning a near-brick into a finished product.

Thank you all for your expertise and encouragement. I guess I'll just have to take the time to load a new ROM - will try KatKiss with /data formatted to f2fs - whatever that is. If I fail, I've lost nothing but time.

Careful, you're in danger of learning stuff. That's illegal in many places, you know.
