    Tf700 no bootloader

I bought a tf700 off someone and had no clue it had been rooted badly. When trying to do a factory restore it appears the bootloader was wiped. now it turns on goes to the asus screen then to a black screen. Is there any hope at home as asus will charge the price of a tf701 if I send it in?

Did you buy it in that state or was it you who tried to do a factory restore? Was it done from Settings > Backup & restore?
First we need to assess what your situation is. Can you get back to the seller and ask him/her how he modified it?
Questions to ask or find out:
Is the tablet unlocked? It would say first thing when you turn it on: The device is unlocked.
Is a custom recovery installed? Which one and it's version?
Was a custom rom installed or was it on stock firmware?

    Try this:
Turn it off, then hold Volume Down and Power until you see some tiny script appear in the upper left.
Read it, write it down and post your bootloader version here (no - I don't think you're bootloader got wiped. A simple factory restore doesn't go that deep). It should be something like 10.6.1.14.8 or 10.6.1.14.10.

You'll also see three icons of which RCK should be flashing. Press Volume Up on the flashing RCK icon and report what happens. Don't freak out if you get a fallen Droid on his back - that would just be the stock recovery. The dead Droid is normal.
But I need to know if you have a custom recovery installed....
To get out of recovery just long press the Power button.

It had his information on it when I got it. It did say device is unlocked. I hold the volume down and power it goes to the asus screen then black screen. It is currently charging and I will check again in a few min.

Since you're new to this tablet: Volume Down is the left side of the rocker. Volume Up is the right side. Sounds as if you're booting into APX mode with Volume Up....
Make sure you push the left side and then Power.

I edited by post a little - read it again.

Not new to asus tablets but push power and down as if I were going to do a soft reset and it says unlocked then black screen. No information, nothing. Thats why I am guessing that the bootloader is gone as it was during a factory reset buy the power and down button
that caused this as I did not know it was rooted.

A factory reset from Settings can cause a hard brick if you have a broken recovery. But factory reset does nothing but calling the recovery to do a full wipe of /data. It does not touch the boot partition.
The bootloader is there - the question is: Can you get into it?

If you cannot boot to the bootloader menu you don't even have fastboot access. That would be bad....

No I can not load to the bootloader menu. Same thing happens no matter how I try to boot it. 189.00 estimate for asus to fix it since it was unlocked.

You can't return it? An unkind (ha!) thing to do not to tell a buyer the state of the device....
    Sorry.

no its ok. It has been too long. I just went here before buying a new one and sending this one off. I can always pay the 189 and wife will have a tablet with dock and I can get the tf701 for under 300 new.

You will be much happier with the TF701 - I can pretty much guarantee it! But you may get into trouble with your wife since the 700 will come back with a new mainboard (questionable if you can unlock it) and the rather slow and laggy stock software... while you're rocking the blazingly fast TF701.
