Thanks. I guess I have to take it apart and see what drivers he included.

The Arch devs assume you know what you're doing and will take the time to do your own troubleshooting and to check out any updates for compatibility with your current system
Shudder - that is enough to give me the willies!
With Android I'm happy to tinker and experiment but my PC is supposed to work - no questions asked. Guess that is what's keeping me: The unavoidable learning curve involved in getting to know Linux.
Now, if Southern California had more rainy days, snow or some such... I am sitting in front of a PC 8 hours/5 days. Not really keen doing more of it on the weekends.....

That's just it, DB--you already know Linux. Some claim Android is nothing but another flavor, and with some justification, the kernel is the same. "Under the hood", the main difference I see is that Android insists on seperate partitions for system, data, etc. while Linux merely allows it. The command-line is the same, BASH (originally there was a "Bourne Shell", it fell out of favor then came back, hence the "Bourne Again SHell". Linux geeks are all punsters). Much of the software available is cross-platform, except of course the proprietary stuff which made Bill Gates the richest man in the world. Didn't hurt Steve Jobs either, that was something else. The only thing I use Windows for these days is to import Kindle books in a format that I can remove the DRM with Calibre. I do this mainly because I don't want to bog down my Droids with the Kindle app, it's a hog.

Here I go again, don't know if I'm proselytizing or pontificating but I should know better. Time to get to work, I don't get to play with computers all day long and get paid for it!

@droidbound ...Hi! I am back with questions, no problems. I don't know Android OS stuff, still. Too complicated. The TF700 is old but I still use it, you have better things to do than maintain CROMi-X for the TF700. So can I go with any other Android OSs? Can it handle newer Android OSs - I use apps from the Play Store and some app updates are not compatible with my current CROMi-X (which I have never updated since initial install).

Or should I switch to Linux?

Just broke the digitizer on the 100TAF. I am going to try to replace it myself, in theory...that is another forum and post.

    Thanks! Fun to be back.

Toni! So good to see you back!
Jeez! That signature! Aren't we buttering a little thick here?
    But thanks anyway.

Well yes, you have your choice between KatKiss, Lollipop, Marshmallow or Nougat roms - incidentally all from the same demigod/developer timduru, the only dev who is still developing for this tablet. That should be plenty up to date for your apps, considering that only 32% of the market rock Marshmallow and roughly 18% made it all the way to Nougat...
    But you can!
So as always: Backup what you cannot live without because for this you have to format data, wiping is not enough - you'll lose everything currently on the tablet.

I trust you are on the latest bootloader 10.6.1.14.10.
Your recovery has to be TWRP 2.8.7.x or younger. I had a rare moment of charity lately and felt compelled to stick the latest TWRP 3.1.1.0 recovery into a flashable package although I do not budge from recommending to always flash a recovery in fastboot.
I am purist - so sue me.
But - should you have a hard time with fastboot - this you can just flash in your current recovery, then reboot: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889964283620755946
Bonus tip: They decided to hawk their terrible TWRP app in this version. When they ask you if you want to install it click "HELL NO AND NEVER ASK AGAIN". That's where I draw the line. Flashable recoveries I can live with. Apps that do it for you - no way!

    Got everything ready?
    Bootloader ? - check,
    Recovery? - check,
rom of choice along with correct gapps and root (if desired) on microsd? -check

Fasten your seat belt, here we go:
    Format /data
Convert /data to f2fs - in case you missed this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tra...p-2-8-t3073471
Flash rom and gapps in one session (plus SuperSU or Magisk if you want/need root).
    Reboot and enjoy.

Doesn't really matter if you go for Katshmallow or Nougatella (no sense flashing anything older), but I am partial to Katshmallow. Even though it is a dead end since it won't see any further development.
But Nougatella is pretty much at the same point. I doubt there are going to be many more updates and I very much doubt we are going to see O for the TF700 - that would be crazy!!! Like putting a Tesla engine into a Ford Model T - but then..... I have seen stranger things.

You know where to find the roms right?

    Enjoy!

Hi Toni, long time! I read (in the Nougatella thread I think) Timduru said he is not YET (emphasis mine) working on Oreo. That was awhile ago, may have changed by now.
