Hi Guys - a question on Titanium backup... I flashed cromi-x two weeks ago and am absolutely delighted! What i want to know now is can i use the titanium backup app that came with it, even though i am not rooted?

If you run CROMi-X you ARE rooted. Custom roms are always rooted out of the box
I use TiBu all the time, so the answer is: yes.

well that's interesting, I thought I was simply flashing a ROM, which specifically did not involve rooting. I assume you are saying that CROMi-X roots as a matter of course? I have to say I was slightly confused when i tried using it earlier and it asked for 'super user rooting rights' - being naturally cautious, I let it time out!

Schush! Don't give my secret away, mate! I like to hedge my bets. If I ruin my reputation on one forum, I may still have a good name on another! Now you're ruining everything

Seriously - it's a long and boring story....

I am in a unique situation that I could use some help with.

I've been after getting a ROM running on my TF700T for awhile with limited success. I have unlocked the bootloader using the Asus tool.

After I did that, I couldn't (at the time anyway) use motochopper to root the device so (reading) led me to roll it back and I'm now on JB 4.1.1 and bootloader version 10.4.4.25

So, I'm unlocked, rooted and I can't find a way to move to an updated bootloader until this thread (updating to JB 4.2 has not worked). Now when I use the fastboot tool, I get no indication when I run the fastboot device command. It's likely as I'm on an old bootloader version and I can't quite figure out how to update it.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
Fastboot works with any bootloader. That you are on a JB 4.1 BL has no significance. Most likely you do not have the correct or necessary drivers for fastboot installed on your PC.
To get to a newer bootloader version there are two ways:

    1) Manually update the Asus stock firmware (you can update all the way to JB 4.2.1 version 10.6.1.14.8 and still root with Motochopper - although you do not need root to install a custom rom...)

    2) Get fastboot working, flash a custom recovery and then flash the bootloader/recovery package from the CROMi-X thread

I would recommend the second method.
Read the OP again. I think there are a couple of things you have missed. Ask if you need clarification.

Thanks for the reply. I did not update my drivers but when I connect the tablet to the PC, device manager shows me the tablet (and as a TF700T) and also changes when I change the USB settings from camera PTP to a media device. So, do you think that I need to update the drivers?

    Thanks,
