    CROMi-X 5.1 vs CM 10.2 vs CM 10.1 stable

    All,

Anyone care to comment on which ROM they like better and why: CROMi-X vs CM 10.2 (nightlies) vs CM 10.1 (stable). I'm looking to try out a 4.3 ROM, and currently have CROMi-X 5.1a running and it's great but want to at least look at a "stable" 4.3 ROM. Thanks in advance.

IMO, the BEST option is to do this.

Make a nandroid (TWRP backup) of your current ROM. If you have Titanium Backup Pro, you can restore data and apps from the nandroid. If you are still using the free version you will want to backup your apps and data in the ROM before you go to TWRP.

Wipe cache, davlik, data (not format data, just wipe data) and system.

Install new ROM. Restore your apps and data.

    See how you like it.

If it is not all you hoped it would be, restore your CROMi-X backup.

The reason I say this is I have seen lots of people suggest this ROM is better, or that ROM beats this ROM but it comes down to what you like better. Some users like lots of customized features and themeing options, others just want it to run smoothly and don't care for any extra frills. You will be the best judge of which is a better fit for you.

Using TiBu Pro and restoring from Nandroids, it only takes me about 1 hour from the time I start a backup until I have a new ROM with my favorite apps installed and ready to go. Using the free version of TiBu it will probably be more like 2 hours (and a lot of annoying taps when restoring your apps).

Thanks. I will likely try it without all my apps. Sort of a clean install, then reinstall apps slowly. Just want to make sure that my cromi-x nandroid will be able to restore it back exactly if I don't like cm.

Definitely give PAC ROM a try. It blends all of the features from the Big Three (paranoid android, Aokp, and CyanogenMod)

You can use other free apps in the place of titanium to restore nandroids as well.

I've used my TWRP backups without fail on my TF101 and it has never failed me.

Well looks like I screwed up. I forgot to wipe before putting on CM 10.2. So I wiped after that, but went to restore my CROMi-X and it fails stating it can't find a partition. I will try reinstall CROMi-X and then try the TWRP backup. I hope I can.

Very strange. Might try rebooting to TWRP after wiping to see if the restore works.

Tried that, it can see the backups fine, but persistently fails to restore as it shows no partitions and it's got CM 10.2 running just fine on it. Wish me luck as I download to the sdcard, install CROMi-X, then try to nandroid backup to where I was. BTW, CM 10.2 is just 4.2.2. So going back to CROMi-X. Wondering, if I get it back, what bloatware might be slowing down the system.

    CM10.2 should be 4.3

Someday soon I will be doing the same as you... trying CROMi-X and CM (maybe that PAC ROM that someone mentioned). Then I might just build my own CM10.2 with OpenPdroid like I am doing for my Samsung GS3.

So let us know your thoughts on the different ROMs.

Looks like my nandroid of 5.1 was bad. I was able to restore to 5.0.4. Then reinstall 5.1a. Turns out I had made a nandroid of the 4.2 UI under 5.0.4. So I have lost only a few tweaks. Is there a way to do a partial recover of a nandroid. It is lacking partitions to choose when it was backed up.

    UPDATE:
All is well. Looks like for some reason TWRP stored the nandroid in the right spot, but put in a subdirectory called "U". I physically moved it back up by connecting it to my PC and now I have restored my 5.1 nandroid. So I can now go try out other ROMs and not worry about losing my 5.1 nandroid backup. Whew... what a day this has been.
